Default Who has bought a new windshield lately?

Got a pretty good chip in mine, don't think it can be filled/repaired so it might end up being a purchase. What's a decent price? Any reason to spend the money on factory glass from the dealer?

I never got glass coverage because they charge $800/yr for it... crazy.

"Any reason to spend the money on factory glass from the dealer"?

Only if you want a proper fit.

Can you go into more detail? I have had several windshields replaced over the years with whatever safelite uses, have never noticed any difference from factory glass.

I inquired recently. It is $1400 where I live, and they keep the car overnight to cure. They are worried to release to customer immediately. That is from a reputable shop, where the local P-dealer sends their cars.

I would never install non-OEM glass on any of my cars. Especially if equipped with the rain-sensing auto wipers.

some aftermarket glass do not have the right curvature through the middle section of the glass... the plastic cowl on the outside bottom will not sit flat against the glass

Will insurance company pay that much to replace? I would think they would balk, saying take it to Safelite for a better price.....

Better price?
I'd try and get the OEM crested glass.
Who knows where the value of you car will be in 5-10 years.
If you car is going to be concourse? You'll loose points with the judges.
vs price, would effect my decision.

Yes, I would most certaintly try to get OEM Porsche glass, but will insurance company pay for it under comprenhesive policy if it costs over $1000, versus a cheaper Safelite solution?

A new safelight windshield was put on my new to me 2006 C2S just before I bought it last September. It works fine. There is no leakage and rain sensor wipers and radio antenna function well.

I just went through this with my 991. Price difference from REPUTABLE aftermarket places and the dealer was $150. For that I would rather have a dealer due it. Mine ended up being $980.

For $150 difference all day long I'll go to the dealer.

I won't labor this, read about my experiences here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ge-repair.html
http://pedrosboard.com/read.php?7,27061,27061#msg-27061
http://pedrosboard.com/read.php?7,27180,27180#msg-27180
https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...dshield-2.html

In short:
1 - I don't trust Safelite (read story)
2 - Non OEM glass is usually poor... distorted field of view... oddly embedded antenna.... Chinese is the worst
3 - Dealer will make it right if there is a problem

I have personal experiences to substantiate all of the above.

Peace
Bruce in Philly
