Default Purchased a 997.2 and went on a road trip

I'd been on the lookout for a DFI engine'd 997 casually for some time. One showed up in a very rural northeast locale, which met my basic requirements (price, 6 speed, and somewhere on the gray scale). Talked to the guy (original owner) extensively, spoke with the service tech at the dealership where it was serviced, reviewed all the records, and bought a one way plane ticket with no real plan B.

Luckily, the car turned out to be great, and the owner turned out not to be an axe murderer. Spent about an hour on the road with it, finalized the transaction, and hit the road. Drove four hours on backroads to DC to my sister's place, and drove around my little nephews who were thrilled (the 6 year old said "wow, I want to live in this thing!"). Today I drove a very pleasant 8 hours back to Georgia.

This is my third 911 (one at a time, of course) I've had an 87 Carrera, a 996 Turbo, and now this one. One thing I'm very surprised about is how much continuity there is in these cars. The engine and exhaust doesn't sound to dissimilar to the other two, similar steering feel, similar chassis feel. Only thing missing on this is the aroma of burning oil- soon enough, I think.

It's got fresh rubber on the stock 18's, so the 19" wheels will have to wait (yes, there is quite a bit of gap fill required, but I'm dorky enough to pull off the current look). The car is stock, other than a Fabspeed X-pipe center muffler bypass. The decklid says both "Carrera" and "911". I think I only want one of the decals, but a bit afraid to remove one due to possible image ghosting.

Congrats on the purchase! Very nice 911!

To remove an emblem, just get some unwaxed dental floss and use it like a saw behind the emblem you want to remove. Also get some "goo-gone" (they have it at Lowes and Home Depot) to remove the residual sticky stuff. Then wax and be done with it!

Sounds like you've have great fun already!

Beautiful car. The emblem should come off and not leave any ghosting. It's not stock, so likely hasn't been on there for too long. And it's a relatively new car. Congrats. Miss my silver 911. So clean and pure.

Congrats and enjoy. I think the after purchase road trip is a must. I haven't actually ever purchased a car that didn't involve a road trip getting it back. Its part of the tradition

Beautiful car! Non s model I think as no red calipers and 18" wheels. However the quad exhaust pipes in the back throw me off. Previous owner also add the quad exhaust on?

Congrats on the 997.2! It's great that you spend a good number of hours driving it already.

Something about silver 911 that just looks so right. Enjoy!
