Looks more like a 993 everyday?

True, the 997 doesn't have it's styling or architecture based on the 993.
The body size of the 997 and the 996 are very similar, but the 997 borrows some styling cues from the 993.
Overall, there is much of the 996 in the 997, and also the 993. That's why the 997 is highly regarded.

The FACT IS that the 997 does not have its styling platform based on the 993 and that is a FACT from the manufacturer Porsche as the 997 is Porsche's evolution of the 996 and not the 993, and not your eyes or opinion. Thus, I am correct because that is purely what Porsche has clearly implemented into the 997's design. Porsche has NEVER connected the 997 style to the 993 with the exception of the headlamps that every 911 has, and to that end-- so does the 356 and VW Beetle. But we sure don't hear any 997 drivers making a design connection to any of those cars.
The fact is the 996C4s and 996TT body designs are practically IDENTICAL to the 997, and inquiring minds here are simply wondering how 997 drivers are making such a distorted connection to 993 body style which looks nothing like a 997, and any person with 20/100 vision can see that.

I can pretty much choose whichever of the Porsche 911 styles to drive that I like...so I drive what my heart desires, and if I wanted to purchase a 997 that looks like any of my 996's I could do that too.

Personally, I think the 997 base model looks better than the 996 base model.
But I like the 996 C4S better than the base of either. Thought about a 997 C4S cab, but: My car came onto the market at the right time and right price point, and…there ya go.
BTW: TommyV44's Riviera blue avatar mobile is just about the most attractive 21st Century Porsche I've ever seen. Just saying.

I would have a 996C4S in front of a 997 anyday... alas I am just going to get the 991 and reap the best of all worlds.

I would not disagree with your positions there, and wholly agree that the 997 base model looks better than the 996 base model, it does have more refined lines, and further that the 996C4S is the style jewel beauty of them all.

The 993 turbo is the finest 911 IMO, its is the epitome of the air cooled cars, as far as they could evolve.
When they went water-cooled with the 996 IMO the evolution started over, the 997 is a much better design and car over the 996 and the 991 picks where the 997 left off.
I see zero 993 in any of the H2O cars.

What our 996-owner does not realize (I suspect) is that his (to be acquired) 991 looks like an Aston Martin from the rear and a Panamera from the front. And... it drives like a balanced car, not like a 911. But...I am sure he will come back and shoot this down. because only he knows, of course.
