As some of you aware from my prior posts, I sold both of my M3s and purchased a beautiful CPOd 2009 997.2, Black/Black. I absolutely love it. It's everything everybody said it would be and much more. Anyway, I really enjoy working on my cars and my 997.2 will be no different, eventhough I was sternly warned by the salesmen at the dealership never ever to attempt any maintenance work on my Porsche. He said that I certainly don't have the expertise and necessary tools. I'm no expert but the 997.2 does not seem to be a difficult car to wrench. So after 6 months of ownership and at 29,300 miles here is what I did so far:
Today:
1. Oil and Filter change with Mobile 0w40.
2. Serpentine Belt changed.
3. Air Filters changed
4. Pollen Filter changed.
This weekend:
1. Spark Plugs
2. Diff/Gear oil change.

Yea, I just smiled and shook my head. I considered saying something but I did not want to ruin my buying experience. I know my limits but basic maintenance is a lay up on these cars. Fluids, brakes, rotors, belt, spark plugs, coil packs, water pumps, alts, etc are really not that difficult.

does the dealer think some magic robot works on the 911 in a pollution free lab or something? Geez, it is all nuts and bolts and turning a wrench. It is just know which ones to turn. Basic maintenance is just that, basic. Plus its extremely gratifying.

He actually took me into their garage area and pointed to the lift and some tools and told me that you can't work on a Porsche without stuff like that. Truth.

Some have said dealers follow a very precise oil change regimen and calibrate the oil gauge. Given that I have been DIYing my oil changes for about 75K with changes at about 7K, I was thinking about overpaying for a change at the dealer...... just to question them about the calibration. Hmm.....

Yes, I've read about oil calibration but to be honest as long as on board oil gauge is good and I put back in what I took out or a touch more, I'm confident. I drove the car for a while to heat up the oil, drained for over an hour then filled and topped up according to the computer's oil guage. I will monitor this weekend. 2009 C2S also Bruce. By the way, the air filters were pretty dirty so I was glad I changed them. Pollen filter was good. Serpentine belt was fairly simple change and old belt was in very good shape.
