Default Looking for input on 997.2 Purchase

Hello - Looking for input from those with knowledge of the market values for the 997.2 S.
- whether it is priced right based on year, mileage, options, etc.
- any red flags, etc.

This is a two owner and no accidents per carfax, last sold as a CPO. I have not seen the car in person, but from the pictures it looks in very good condition.

Thanks in advance. .

I personally think the price is about right.

No red flag. It's obviously owned and well cared for by an older gentlemen. Note the cup holder (warranty), battery, key battery serviced by dealer; few young car enthusiastic owners let dealer charged them for battery jobs. That's a positive point.

Both owners obviously have great relationship with the car dealer.

I didn't see a 20K,30K miles services but that's no big deal. Owner prob had indi did it.

Thank you nk215. Good observations. I will do some reseach on the big items for the 20k/30k service. I will do a PPI should I decide to move forward. Looks like it was auctioned this year to the current dealer.

I would give a little more digging around for more detail. I recently acquired a launch edition 2009 C4S with all the options you have listed plus Bose high end sound package, XM radio, PAG lanch code, full leather, with GT2 sport seats, and only 30K mile on it from a CA dealer. Has been a CA car from the start (if you are trying to stay away from snowy areas, thus minimize the body rust risk in the future). I was able to close the deal at $55k plus tax and lic. Just want to give a number out so you have a figure in mind. A clean 997.2 4S in south california with loaded options is hard to find, since there are more demand for it and low supply. It took me more than a year to find her. Good luck with the search.

personally I think 64k mi is too much, I would look for cars with lower miles, no matter what the year I would look at cars with 35 to 50 max

Price is decent. I would offer $45k and see what that gets you. Otherwise seems like a nice car. Oh and definitely get a PPI if you are serious about it. The fact that it was previously sold as a CPO car doesn't really mean much, who knows what it needs right now, which is really all that matters.

But why? It looks like the 2nd owner had the car for 4 years and drove it an average of 1,000mi a month, which means it was not a garage queen. Fluids were cycled through the car and it was well maintained.

I know it is a manner of personal preference, but there seems to be somewhat of a fear that these cars self destruct after a certain amount of mileage, which is not true. Low mileage cars can have tons of problems, and higher mileage cars can run perfectly. It ALL depends on how they were maintained.

Now, if the OP is looking to drive the car for a year or two and then sell it, yes, definitely invest in a lower mileage vehicle, because that is what will be easier to sell--a lot of people have a rather irrational fear about driving a 911 over XXX number of miles.

But if the OP is looking to keep the car, enjoy it, and drive it for years to come, do not be afraid of a car with 60K miles. The price is in range of decent, but I would make sure that it passes a PPI and I'd get the seller to throw in everything that would be included in the 60K miles service. Especially check the tires, as they have over 20K miles on them, and also check the brakes (rotors and pads).

Good luck!

"Owned" by whom? It says it was leased twice? What is this, some kind of used car lease?

I try to stay away from cars with a lengthy history of leasing.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone…. Very pleased with the willingness to provide guidance here. I called the dealership and they kindly disclosed that they've repainted the front hood, due to the number of excessive large chips for the mileage. They purchased a car in a recent auction before repainting the hood and putting it up for sale. This is a dealership known for having a pretty good inventory of P-cars. Maybe previous owner may have done highway miles driving too close to trucks, who knows. For the price point I think this is a hard stop for me. Unless they're willing to sell the car for significantly less. I'm just gonna take my time to find a clean example... I've been specifically looking at the 997.2's. Or maybe I will consider a 2009 or later cayman s, or Cayman R. Again thanks for all the feedback and I'm looking forward to finally finding my match. Cheers

these cars are not daily driven, so they should have low miles due to non useage. If somebody buys a 911 and drives it every day, or leases it and drive the hel out of it, good for him, but you dont want to buy THAT car. You buy the one that has been pampared and not used up.
this car is not cpo warranteed, so they are not fixing anything it needs .
they will tell you everything it needs after you buy it. I see no brake work for 64k mi, so it needs complete brakes, thats a few thousand $, it had tires 2 yrs ago, so it needs tires,
Not to mention any engine tune up, anything else not working. So at 65K mi, its due for alot of service and its not warranteed. Id look at lower mileage cars and find one thats so good they are cpo ing it.

I rather buy a car that has been driven instead of one that sat in a garage. Ask any Porsche mechanic and he will tell you that his most frequent customers are the garage queens.

I was worried when I bought my 2009 997.2 c2s. I wanted really low miles because I thought that higher miles would mean more problems. I bought it in 2012 with 5200 miles and now at 46000. It runs great. Nothing but oil and filters, other fluids and lots of tires! Wouldn't worry too much about miles--more about no other red flags.

I have a 2005 with 59k and it still looks and runs like a new car. Admittedly I have replaced the motor 3k miles ago, but that was due to an IMS failure which was corrected on 2008 and later cars so you don't have that exposure. I comment because while my motor may be new everything else has 60k and the car shows little to no indication of slowing down any time soon even though I run DE track events a few times a year and drive the car another 2k miles or so a year locally.

That said, I agree with the earlier poster that recommended you base your decision on what you plan to do with the car in the future. Though a 75k mileage Porsche may still make a fantastic car, the percentage of the market that wants one is significantly smaller so your resale value will likely be more volatile than a much lower mileage car.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
