Default 997 Still Gets Lots of Attention

Must say I'm thoroughly enjoying my new to me 2012 C4S with PDK, PSE, Sports Chrono Plus, full Leather and Clear Tail-Lights among other great options. Car is CPO with 27k on the odometer. I know the 997 has been around since 2005 but I've noticed in the short 3 weeks I've had the car that it stills gets lots of attention and 2nd looks every where I go. Maybe it's the deep growl of the sport exhaust that turns heads but whatever it is I like it.

Oh yeah, I get a lot of people taking out their phone and taking pics. I get a lot of pictures taken when they are behind me, look at the rearview mirror and they are snapping a few pictures. For the majority of the population, they don't know it's a ten year old car.

Yup. Happened to me last month while crawling along the highway. Looked in my rearview mirror and saw the car behind me taking pics.

Kids always point and yell out "Porsche!" whenever I drive by. However these cars do attract a lot of unwanted attention. These kinds of cars are not for introverts.

You have no idea! I think I have perfected the humble, "Thank you", response.

Are you sure it's "unwanted" attention?

Lots of people think my '05 is a $150,000 car. I'm quick to tell them its ten years old (most of the time).

When they start on the $250 oil changes, I calmly say "I change it myself".

Yup. Few people can tell the difference between a 20 year old 911 and a new one. All they see is one thing... $$$ lol

I have all types of people come up and talk. Even with my wife in the car, I get women coming over to the car to make conversation. I live in an bubble area and there are lots of expensive cars here. I find it funny.

Mine gets some attention, but there are few Porsches in our town. Being bright red, doesn't hurt I would guess, as it's hard to miss. Happily, no negative attention thus far.

BTW, I disagree about the introvert comment. It's a perfect conversation starter. I'm not naturally chatty with strangers, but have had quite a few pleasant conversations with people sparked by the car. Two years in to the ownership experience, it's been nothing but great...T

I parked my 911 outside the bank with the top down recently. When I came back out, there were two teenaged girls posing in front my car and taking pictures of each other on their phones. It was awesome.

But seriously, my rather dinged up 2006 looks great from 10 feet away. You can't even see the chipped up hood and rusty lug nuts. Had it for a year now and I've seen a few people taking pictures or vids.

I'm a pretty introverted guy and got the windows tinted so I didn't feel like I was driving in a fishbowl for everyone to stare at. Never expected this much attention.

I bought my first porsche recently, it is a 2005 997. On my drive home from the dealer, I was stuck in stop and go traffic with the top of the cab down and this lady was next to me in a 7-series BMW. Her young daughter, maybe 7-9 yrs old, rolled down the window and say "hi porsche", "Hi Mr, I love your porsche." It was really a moment that could have made a commercial. Yes, it is definitely still a sharp car. : )
