I just got my 997.1 and amazed by it.. so it's great to see it gets even better with the dot two!

1. Easier oil change on .2, you don't have to lift the car to change the oil filter.
2. Bigger brake than .1, albeit by just a little.
3. Revised suspension. The .2 seems to dampen the higher frequency bumps better than .1
3. C4S now comes with mechanical LSD.
4. Electronic F/R differential that reacts faster to driving conditions (so they said).
5. Ventilated seats are finally available. Very important here in CA.
6. New PCM including the Bluetooth, larger screen, iPod integration AND Sat Radio.
7. No IMS (I think this was the biggest reason).
8. DFI (better mileage and more power).
9. Better looking standard wheels (IMHO)
10. LED lighting all around + the adaptive cornering lights (I love it in my BMW).
11. I liked the black keys (.2) better than the silver keys (.1)
12. I loved the silver painted front air inlets on .2 4S's
13. I almost forgot the 30 extra HP. It's nice to have some extra power.
14. Bigger side mirrors. What can I say, I am old and bigger mirrors helps.
Sounds like a lot for 10gs. Hence why I'm gonna look for a .2 vs .1

And than say how their outdated 9A1 engine sounds better, how the rear steering doesn't matter, how the electronic rear diff isn't a big difference, or they don't care for the new LED rear lights

But hey park them side by side no one can tell difference between a 991.1 and a 991.2!
NOPE, its all about NA vs Turbo. I like NA better. but the 991.2 looks better

Actually, the difference is a lot less than $10K down the road when you sell the car. If you assume that 6 years from now, the .1 cars are worth $35K and the .2 cars are worth $40K. You essentially recoup $5K back. So you'll only end up spending $5K extra on .2 vs .1, or just the difference between their selling prices down the road, what ever the future holds.

Thanks for the summery. Looks like I made the right choice based on my priorities and budget and situation.

Coming from an M3 and comparing the 2 cars, the statistics don’t show a HUGE difference in any one area, but the entirety of the car and especially the “feel” is what sets it at a new level for me. The 911 isn’t 2x the car the M3 is, and this is when we start to get into the law of diminishing returns. My bro has a 991 and I don’t think it is worth 2x the price that mine is, but I am sure he thinks so. I have made the mistake in the past with some items of purchasing a less than top of the line item and regretted it later (I HATE that “dang, I should have bought” feeling), but I have never done this with a car, and I still feel that way (again, given my priorities).

I also prefer the 997.1 look, though it isn't nearly as stark as the change from the decent looking 987.1 to the disastrous 987.2.

Having said that, one big advantage in my book is the mechanical LSD with SPASM on the .2. If you don't track your car, you probably won't notice. For me, seeing the return of the LSD on a standard Carrera was long overdue. Of course, installing an aftermarket LSD in a 997.1 is actually easier than on most cars thanks to the access panel in the diff housing. Also, adding a center radiator for track use only costs a couple hundred dollars. I guess I have a bias which shows.

I can barely tell the difference cosmetically and I know what the differences are. I bet if you gave an uninformed person 10 mins to look at the 2 side by side that they probably couldn't tell

Sure a few extra horses would be nice but it was hardly a ground breaking move

Besides, the 997.1 sounds sooooo much better!!
april fool logic or trolling?...hard to tell which...but as they say, 'what ever makes you happy'!!!

997.2 is better in every way except for exhaust note.

That can be easily fixed with a simple gundo hack. Or perhaps with other more elaborate exhaust systems currently available.

Why I waited until the 997.2 came out to order my car:
1) Bluetooth HFP
2) New engine design
3) LED lighting

and you can spend $5k more and get a AWD, and then few $k more and get a targa, or $30k more and get a Turbo....

I would like to have a .2 at times, but sometimes the .1 is the right car at the right time.

The interior sucks in both. Let's not pretend the 997 wins any awards for the interior. It's laughable when compared to any luxury car of the same generation.

That's why its kind of funny and the only things that I really care about are the performance one. Honda and Toyota make far superior navi and infotainment systems than any German manufacture and the interior isn't anything to brag about but i guess some people care about that stuff more than I thought.

Isn't any infotainment argument thrown out when you can probably purchase a $500 current unit that is significantly better than what was avail in 2009?

I guess I am just not one of those guys that goes to a car show or cars and coffee and look at ANY in dash screen and say "wow, wish I had that" (in fact I don't even look at that area of the car). Now the 30 extra hp? Now we are talking about a little genuine jealously.

I didn't want to pay $25k more for 30 hp at the time. I'm sure the .2 is very nice.

Quad, I did good right? :+)

To the OP: DFI engine is no small change. It is a totally new block. I also know from replacing the shocks in my 2009 C2S there are suspension differences. Nobody seemed to write about them but the car configuration in the rears is different. Did Porsche do this to fit the new engine or did they improve the system? I dunno, but there are more substantive differences than just the block.

The trouble with this image is that it is misleading.
The 997.2 has 4 valves per cylinder, and one DFI injector per cylinder.

The injector does not shoot at the back of the valves, but rather between them and into the combustion chamber.

Takes some work and some $ but you can get a .2 pretty close. The Tubi on my -09 C4S was excellent but I like the PSE/Sharkwerks bypass combo even better. On par with the -06 C4S with Tubi as far as my ears can tell. Splitting hairs I wouldn't disagree with anyone who says the .1 still has bit more grunt to it.
