Ran into an issue changing brake pads on my .2 C2S
Getting ready for track season I figured I would change out the OEM pads in my 2009 C2S with some Carbotech ones that I acquired recently from a fellow member.
My neighbour (a Porsche mechanic by all standards) started with the rear wheel and the removal of the OEM ones went smoothly. We had to take out the 4 disk like things that are between the pads and the calliper and decided to tie up the sensors behind the brakes so that future swapping of pads could be easier. So far so good.
Then, we put in the carbotech XP12 pads that I bought from member Jmon. We immediately noticed a difference in the design (see picture). The XP don't have the round pads at each end. More importantly the retaining clip does not sit as it does with the OEM and does not hold the pads in place. See pictures - picture 1 compares the two pads side by side, picture 2 shows the OEM pads with the clip next to it and picture 3 shows the XP12 pad with the OEM clip next to it.
Jmon had a 2005 C2S and my research had suggested that brakes between .1S and .2S are the same, so the pads should fit.
Is there a different type of retaining clip that is needed with some aftermarket pads? or do these brake pads not seem the right one for a C2S?
thanks for your inputs.

I'm almost positive that 997.1 & 997.2 "S" brakes are the same. My track pads don't have the silver things either. The retaining rod should still line up. Put the rod though the caliper hole, then push down the spring clip, feed the rod over the top of it while pushing it down, then put the rod through the pad hole, and into the back of the caliper. Put on the codder pin and you're done.

The Rod and clip should look like this when done.

Also, track pads won't have a place to plug n the sensor. You can either twist tie them up and out of the way or clip and solder the ends together to create the ground loop that won't trigger the warning on the dash.

Here's what mine look like.

Everything you said makes sense, except the retaining clip does not work with the xp pads...is the fit of the retaining spring clip exactly the same between OEM and other pads? As you can see from my picture it's not looking the same in my case even though the contact area of the brake pad looks exactly the same...

Huh, I guess I didn't notice the difference. I don't think your pads are right. Did the seller say they were for a 997S? Sorry if I overcomplicated the response. If you buy new one's check out Apex performance. They're site sponsors and have a great rep. No Affiliation.

Yeah the seller Jmon said they were off his 997S though a 2005. Interestingly, on the carbotech website the 2005 S rear pads show a different part number from 06 onwards....wonder if the clip was different in 05Ss? I can't seem to find a part number for that clip in sunset Porsche to check.

Can't help with the clip, but the silver things Porsche added later - they, according to the pelican parts website, made a larger backing plate with added weight to reduce noise. When I did the brakes on my 996 the original pads did not have the wieghts and the OEM replacements did so I looked it up.

Pelican parts website lists the same part number for the rears on 05's, 07's and 10's - so it looks like the rears are all the same
For the fronts the 05's and 07's have the same part number, but the 10's have a different number - so the .2's have different front brake pads.

Interestingly carbo tech on their web site have a different part number for the rear brake pad for an 05 S and then a different one for 06+ S. Anyone notice a difference in the pad or clip design between a 05 and higher S before?
