O/P - do it once? That's stupid.
Do it twice? You're an idiot.
Glad it worked out well.
NAM VET- similar story- My mum goes south for the winter. I install snow tires on her 7 series. Often the car sits for weeks, undriven. In the spring, when changing the tires over, the battery was dead. I too am careful with electric locks and keys. I left the hood up to charge the battery and the key on the roof. Simple enough. Stepfather get to the car ahead of me, takes the charger off, closes the hood, can't find the key on the key hook, digs through the spare key drawer hiding area, and takes off with the original key on the roof. $4oo key fob lost in the neighborhood. They only bring it up every single week for the last 2 years.
No good deed, goes unpunished.

Well it's good to see that I am not the only one who has done something bone headed. Thanks guys
It's also good to know there are other options on getting around this problem. I'll read that post in detail when I have time (IE when I am not at work).

I got some questions on how I route the CTEK quick connector cable so here are some pics:
I was actually just now trying to find black cable tie clips to secure the cable to the plastic or the hood but as usual I can't find them despite a new garage that is supposed to be in good order.....
Anyhow - I have been driving it for a year just tucking it underneath the hood and it works fine.
It is useful to always be able to see the LED when I get in/out of the car.
