Brake upgrade for C4S

Brake upgrade for C4S
I have an '08 C4S which I use primarily at the track. I would like to upgrade to 6 piston calipers and bigger rotors up front. I understand that 996 Turbo calipers and rotors can be bolted on without modification. Is this correct and if so, where is the best (least expensive) place to source them from?
In addition, does anyone have experience with Frozen Rotors slotted rotors at the track. I have found the OEM drilled rotors don't stand up well to heavy track use. Thanks.

I don't think the 996 turbo calipers would be an upgrade for the 997 C4S. I believe they are essentially the same brakes. I could be wrong on that - I'll dig through my stuff and see if I can find more information.

I have also heard that the brakes on the C4S are the same as the Turbo. I am sure I read it on a forum but I couldn't say for sure exactly where. Have you looked into the brakes on a Turbo S?
I think slotted rotors are better in general though that's just my opinion and I am by no means a brake expert. I had drilled and slotted rotors on my Boxster which saw a decent amount of track time. While I noticed a lot of the Boxster S guys had cracking in their drilled rotors there was none on the D/S combo. The slotted rotors seemed to keep the pads from glazing which was a problem for me with standard rotors.

Can someone educate me as to what considers "upgrade"? Is that 350mm vs 330mm, 6 pistons vs 4, lower mass, or floating rotor feature? if this is for longevity then I just swap my slotted regular 330mm $170/pair for much cheaper then Giros (they look cool though). If it for cooling then my GT2 ducts and GT3 liners are perfectly enough for 40 min session. I am just thinking that like almost $3k investment which I could trade for 30 hours of PRO-coaching.
Thanks in advanced.

Yes the GT3 996 6 piston calipers bolt right up to your Carrera and use Turbo 350mm rotors from a 997.1 Turbo...or go aftermarket with the excellent Giro Disco rotors for a Turbo.
I did this mod on my Carrera GTS and it worked awesome...much improved braking. After tested different brake pads at the track I settled on Pagid RS29 Yellows front and RS14 Black rear. This combo help with the forward brake bias but into the Carrera and Turbo models and helped the car brake a little flatter at the track.

The yellow caliper that's used with PCCB rotors on the 996 is an upgrade because it's 6 piston instead of 4, uses a larger rotor 350 vs 330 mm and increases the swept area between the pad and rotor. The larger rotor provides a larger heat sink. For track use, slotted is better than drilled - no cracking and slots sweep the pads to keep them fresh. The Girodisc 2 piece rotor with the aluminum hat will also reduce unsprung weight. Another good option is the dba slotted two piece rotors that also have temp lines painted on them so you can see how hot they're getting, but I'm not sure they offer these in the 350mm size for the 6 pistons - might only be the 330mm big reds 4 piston size as that's what I have on my wife's car.

FYI...red or yellow 6 piston caliper...are the same caliper just a color difference.
This mod works on Carrera S and GTS too

Also, I forgot to mention... if upgrading from big reds on a 997 to the larger caliper (yellow, I thought), the caliper mounting bolts are different (longer). If you'll be tracking, you may want to go to a stud/nut setup instead of the stock caliper mounting bolt setup. The carriers the bolts screw into are aluminum and a lot frequent unmounting/remounting can strip out the holes. Rennline offers these kits as to others.

The 997.1 turbo has red 6-piston front calipers with 350mm rotors. The PCCB option has yellow 6-piston front calipers with 380mm rotors.

Good to know. Thanks. My '05 997 C2S has the PCCBs from the 996 Turbo (rotors actually have 996. part #s) and they are 350mm both front and rear.

Have you seen the size of the PCCB rotors on the 991 cars? They are huge. I think they are 420mm.
