Center console rattle....solved.
I've had an annoying rattle develop at freeway speeds on rougher patches of freeway Tarmac.
My car is a 2009 C4S with 54k miles, which is otherwise mostly rattle free (few seatbelt squeaks etc). This new rattle was quite obnoxious and I had to track it down. I had someone else drive the car and after poking and prodding for a little while, I removed the ashtray from the console and the noise went away. It was resonating against the console at certain frequencies.
I'm going to put felt under the bottom side and see if I can reinstall it without the noise. I know there are lots of sources of rattles in these cars but if it helps someone on here then great!

Not that I noticed , but when I was in the passenger seat being driven and removed the ash tray, the rattle disappeared. Once I was about to re-insert it, the rattle started to return.
While its out I should look for anything which may have fallen down there. I'm the second owner so who knows!
