RAC is an awesome place. I've spent hours there. They are extremely knowledgeable and generally have prime examples for sale. Their asking prices absolutely reflects that, and then some.

That is the general impression I get from my research as well. Seriously, that one is damn near perfect for me. I guess I'll need to talk it over with RAC to see if they have wiggle room on the price.

That car is worth 80% of asking. The options are nothing special and the mileage certainly doesn't command this price either regardless of whether or not it has full service history.

Just called that poor dealership (Lyman Auto in Griswold).. They have an answering machine that says "if you are calling about a vehicle that does not have a white building in the background, it is not on our inventory." Not sure of the point of that hacking exercise but feel sorry for the dealership.

I know their reputation is very good, but they do seem high on just about every car they've got - trying to figure out why and if its worth it. I work about 10 miles from RAC so I'm just going to swing by in the next week or so, but it would be nice to know if there is something about these cars that justifies relatively higher prices than similar cars. Is RAC's reputation really so bullet-proof that its worth the extra $ to do business with them? I'm skeptical. But they do have some nice examples.

Prices are going up for 997's due to supply and demand. They will only go higher as time goes on. 997 is arguably the most desired 911 of all-time. Look at new car prices for cars that aren't even half as good as a 911. It all boils down to what it's worth to you.

RAC is awesome to deal with. They did the PPI for the GTS I decided to pass on...Seneca and nwGTS they still have it for sale by the way haha.


That being said, I have seen two 911's on autotrader in Texas that ended up being listed on consignment at RAC for about 10k more than the Autotrader ad. Just some info.

Appreciate the input, and I plan to buy a 997.1 c2s in the near future because I agree about its desirability. I am ok with prices rising as demand rises, nothing I can do about that - my real question is what am I willing to pay above and beyond what appears to be market value for a car on RAC's lot? Do they actually have better cars that justify the additional asking price? Or am I paying for their name/reputation while a better deal could be found on a car with similar options/miles/condition etc.

Condition, mileage, options, history, maintenance, color, all these factors ultimately affect the price. 911's are a la carte, someone looking for very specific options/color are most likely willing to pay more to get exactly what they want. Typical Porsche buyer is very specific. Again, it boils down to what you're willing to pay. With that said, you can usually find a better price on the private used market, versus a dealer. But nowadays it seems the dealers are hoarding all the low mileage clean examples, so harder and harder to find private examples for sale.

RAC is way too proud of their cars. Don't get me wrong, I like to see high 997 prices for selfish reasons. RAC can be in stratosphere though. Sonicautomotive.com is a much better place to look for used Porsches.
