Why Motul? Well, in my experience cars runs cooler, oil PSI a little higher, no oil consumption and finally great reports back from Blackstone labs!!!

my GT3 ran at hot idle 1.5 bar with 0-40 Mobil 1 and 2 bar with 5-40 Redline. But then I don't think it takes much oil pressure to protect an idleing/no load motor. Both pegged the oil pressure with any rpm at all. I use the appropriate Mobil 1 oils (the ones with the higher levels of anti-wear additives) in our other cars, but my GT3 gets Redline.
All modern engine oils are superb lubricants, some are even bette.
All the best....

Why use anything but Mobil-1? Lesser oils for lesser cars, I say.
If you're worried about oil sometimes bypassing the filter you might want to look into this http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...ENGoil_pg1.htm

UPDATE: testing sensor using test suggested by fellow 6 Spdrs
(IE: with motor off, turn switch to acc. position. Gauge should show no deflection)
it appears the fault lies with the gauge readout. The coincidence needed for this to happen is huge and hard for me to believe
but I will have sensor replaced and go back to Motul in the future. We will see what happens.
Thanks to all for the input.

You can also try cleaning the contacts but I had no luck with that.

The part is pretty cheap and it's not a bad DIY.

My baseline is 200*F = 2 bars of oil pressure at idle speed with 5W-40. IF the stoooopid gauge behaves well. Big, fat IF that is.

Just listen carefully what actually Porsche people have to say. And keep in mind that the 996's have already been inducted to the 'Classisc'.

No one I know or have read advocates for the use of modern synthetics in vintage water cooled motors. Water cooling allowed for tighter running tolerances thus meeting stricter pollution standards. I'd argue that 996 falls into later category and is best served by synthetics. Among the current synthetics I'd say Mobil 1 is a Red Label Dewars compared to the Johnny Walker Black top shelf Motul and Redline offerings. Mobil does pay a lot for advertising. It will do the job. Motul has the advantage of being plant based and renewable for us tree lovers. Cheers and thanks for the clip.

Every single specification has a range: from - to.
I prefer Macallan.
996 is classic:

What I'm trying to say is that it will take Porsche another 20 years to admit that the A40 isn't quite applicable to 996 and 997 as both platforms age.
Happy to help.
