Default Radar mounting question

I have an Escort 9500ix radar I am looking at hardwiring in my 997. Haven't decided if hooking into the electric connection in the dome light or running the cord around trim up to roof.

Either way my question is what have people used to mount these effectively? It indicates the sticky mount which apparently works well doesn't work with this detector and it doesn't indicate the mount for the rear view mirror will fit our cars. I would prefer to have under mirror to get best coverage and not in the way but if mounted on windshield too far, the cord will bother me (which is why hardwiring in first place). Thoughts?

Also, anyone use their direct wire kit and have anything positive/negative to say on that front?

I have the same unit and mounted it on a suction cup to the left of the mirror.. Used their hardwire kit and ran the cord along the A pillar and down to the fuse box.. Cord is not visible and I found a post online showing which spot to tie it to in the fuse box.. Completely reversible.. Works great..

I use this. There are awesome because no suction cup and they are very small so they don't obstruct your view like the expensive blendmount.

I use the BlendMount. It's really nice. It doesn't obstruct your vision; the mount itself is hidden behind the mirror. It's also very stable. It's not cheap, but it's worth the money in my opinion.

The BlendMount is a clamp made of machined aluminum that attaches to the rear view mirror.

My car is a cabriolet, so the power cord runs down the a-pillar to the fuse box. When I had a coupe, I tapped into the power for the dome light.

Yeah, but technically you are now in violation of CA DMV laws and now every cop can legally pull you over. That's why I have a blendmount

We offer the G-Bracket too - an option if you have the self dimming power rearview 997 mirror. Available for V1 and Escort.

Thats interesting. Maybe you are correct, I have no idea. I know also tinted windows and no front license plate are as well and after 30 years of driving here I haven't got pulled over for any of the three.

OP - sit in a car with the blendmount before buying one. I am 6'2" so maybe it is different for others but it hangs down below the mirror and really obstructs your view. The suction cup or the one I have can be mounted way up high next to the mirror.

This is helpful info.
I will check when I get to the car, but from what I recall I don't think it can fit above the mirror on window mount and still get reception. Not sure if this distance is different for cabs vs coupes. (Targa is based on cab)

I'm 6'4", and the BlendMount doesn't obstruct my view any more than any other windshield mount. I used to use suction cups and mount it higher, but then it interferes with the visors.

I guess it's best to try a few options and see what you like. BlendMount works with auto-dimming mirrors too.

OP, please see my prior post (link below) on how I hardwired my Passport Max to the fusebox. I know several others have done this. Dennis C and saabin appear to have wired theirs the same way as well. Sorry that I have nothing to offer on the mount since the Max had the sticky cup.

Hey r_32... I was curious and looked at the EscortRadar.com website. It appears they have a version of the sticky cup mount that will work for you if you don't find anything else you like better. There is another version for the Max models. Here is a link to what appears to be the one you need (but please verify for yourself!): https://www.escortradar.com/store/StickyCup.html

Here is the key quote under the "specs" section that seems to confirm this:
"Works with all current ESCORT radar detectors except Passport iQ, SmartRadar and the PASSPORT Max (The mounting clip for the Max is different from other models. However, a custom StickyCup mount is included with the purchase of your Max). "

6'3" here and I agree. No visibility issues at all. Don't think mine is a proper BlendMount but similar. All metal and very solid.

Sandwedge - if not a blend mount where did you get your mirror mount?

Thanks Stormrune - I will check that out because I know when I first looked earlier this year I had seen something about it not working with the 9500 (which I thought odd) but maybe something changed.
