Extended warranty for a 2012 997 GTS?
Hello,
Hoping you guys can help because this is my first car and I don't have much experience with this.
So my manufacturer warranty expires in December. Took my car in for a service a week or so ago and asked about the extended warranty. Was wondering if people had thoughts on whether or not to do this or just roll the dice and save the cash for any repairs needed down the line. I've had zero problems with the car by the way. 2012 997 GTS, 20,500 miles
Quotes (all $250 deductibles)
3 Year / 36K / $3,700
4 Year / 48K / $4,800
5 Year / 60K / $5,600
6 Year / 60K / $5,900
I think this is a Fidelity extended warranty but it's quoted from this website
http://www.jmfamily.com/ and considered a "Platinum" coverage for whatever that is worth. Also - I'm in NYC if that is something of note for this.
I appreciate any help you guys can give
Thanks

Have there been any real big issues in general with the 997.2 models that might bite me in the *** in a couple years?
Forgive my ignorance - I just haven't been keeping track of this stuff like I should I suppose

Is yours a 6sp manual or PDK? PDK failures are rare but not unheard of and since they don't repair but replace you're looking at about $15K in round figures. Been there and done it but was covered by extended warranty. If you do decide to buy, make sure you do it BEFORE the factory warranty expires or you'll pay substantially more.

Buy it, you won't miss the money and you'll sleep better knowing that if anything catastrophic happens, you're not having to shell out gigantic wads of cash.

Since the Fidelity Warranty was mentioned, I would advise that anyone contemplating their purchase take a look at this link.

The Car Dealership we purchased our car from, completed our last oil change. They didn't put the oil plug in tight enough therefore the plug came out while I was driving down the highway. The car died as soon as the plug came out. I coasted into a driveway and then that's when the car lost ALL of its oil. So we had it towed to the dealership and they said it was the starter, so we paid for it. That didn't work. Then they said it was the plugs and wires, that didn't work either. Fidelity didn't help us out with any of this payment what so ever, which was a little over $1000.00. Then we had to have it towed to Germain Infiniti (which cost us another $452.50). When it got there, Infiniti said that it needed a Cam Sensor, which was another $450.00. Well needless to say THAT DIDN'T WORK EITHER! Fidelity still didn't help pay for anything. Then they tell us it's the Motor, it's blowed!!
Fidelity did an inspection and they said THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS, The MOTOR was $6700.00. We still owe $20,000.00 on the vehicle. We haven't had this vehicle even a year. (7 months) that's it. What is the point in getting a warranty if it's not going to cover something that is not our fault. The oil plug fell out because of lack of responsibility of a service tech that couldn't do his job. Now they are saying that our car is worth nothing but $4500.00, Really? That's a $16,000.00 loss we are looking at because of INCOMPETENT PEOPLE, and we still are making payments on our vehicle. All we want is help to pay for this motor. Fidelity needs do what's right. STOP ripping people off, we pay for these warranties and what for, when it doesn't even help with ANYTHING!!!

5ooo miles per year.
5 year coverage at $1100/year or 22 ₵/ mile.
Whatever your coverage or policy, I hate the battle to claim.
Oh you were out of state? We don't cover months with 'er in them.
Is there an OEM policy?
There are always so many loop holes. I'm never covers.
My subaru warranty covered exhaust emission. Something went wrong with the intake emission.

No experience with Fidelity, but I was very happy with the return on my investment for the coverage on my 993. Never had a problem collecting or with coverage.

Is that a company the service dept. recommended?
In the recent past I paid about half those numbers but on a car(truck) that would be 1/10 the cost to repair so that looks decent from my level.
If you aren't overly worried maybe look at a drivetrain only policy, that platinum might be bumper to bumper

FWIW my quotes were half that with the same deductible with Fidelity. I had 13k miles on my 2011 GTS Cab. I got the 5 yr/60k one for like 3K.
