Great pictures. I wanted a targa and wanted dark blue, got impatient and love mine, but...these look great.

Picture of my 09 Targa 4. My 2 young kids are growing up so my time with this is limited. I'll miss the hatchback function the most.

So, question here, are the 997 Targas only available in a 4?

They were either a Targa 4 or Targa 4S. No 2 wheel drive variant.

Tommy618- Nice grey color! Hopefully you'll be able to keep it for a while longer. I've had 3 adults in my car for short trips and it works out OK. But, wouldn't want to do it for longer than a 20-30 min trip.

General Question: has anyone painted or plastidipped the chrome stripe on their Targa? Pics?

I have a 2009 C4S but my first 911 was a 2009 Targa 4. I honestly still miss the Targa. The experience with that big glass roof open is really quite special. I drove it almost everywhere with the glass retracted.

By the way I think the darkened chrome strips look great - nice touch!

While I love my targa (even with its roof noises) the most commented feature by other people is the chrome strip. I'm not really a big fan of it in general. I think it tries to hide a slightly different roof line than the coupe.

I have had multiple owners ask if it was a special order/option and how to get them. I think it is as much symptomatic of us p-car owners, that if we see something new/different we generally try to see if it will work for our cars to make them a bit more unique.

Just my thoughts. And to the folks that like the normal chrome strip or the ones which are blacked out - as long as you like it, that is all that matters. I'll be keeping it chrome because while I don't really like it in isolation, it just is a part of the car and seems to be part of its personality.

Long live the targa!

The dark chrome strip looks outstanding.

My 2007 Targa is dirty and it is raining here...so will have to post pictures later.

I swapped out the Targa for my M5 for drive to airport this week - been so long since I drove the M5 the battery was just about dead. I really love the M5 but it is not even close to as much fun to drive as the 997. Took the M5 out for a spin to get it all warmed up before putting in garage and I realize why I never drive it...

Thanks Eva996. The blacked out strip looks great!!! Now I need to find some time to do mine. I think I will do Plastidip, since it is easily reversible if I ever want to go back to stock.

Here's another question for the Targa guys: Have you ever had a whistling noise from the mirrors?

Mine whistle like crazy. As soon as I hit 54 MPH or faster.

I searched and tried using the silicon glue method on the mirror seams, but it didn't seem to help. Anyone successfully resolved this? Or do you just live with it?

F308gt4 - I actually don't think I have heard a whistling noise from my mirrors - but will pay more attention next time I drive. Do you hear it with windows up? I assume you do but just wanted to check...I drive most always with the top "down" and even windows down so that when I do roll them up I am probably accustomed to more noise...

I don't hear it with the windows up and roof closed. When I first got the car, I thought it was the roof. But, further experimentation narrowed it down to both mirrors. If I have the roof closed, and open one window at a time, I can hear it when the window is open.

I did a search on whistling, and it seems to be a common problem with the mirrors. Unfortunately, the silicone glue fix did not work for me. I suppose I could try to bring it to a dealer, but I imagine the cost would be pretty high for them to fix it, and it's probably not worth it- I could live with the noise.

Maybe I should just get a louder exhaust???
