Minutia! Squirter and fan... Why?

2009 C2S

I love this stuff. Totally inconsequential.......

Did you notice that when you pull back the stalk to invoke the squirters, your cabin fan increases in speed for about 30 seconds? Whao......!!!!

Yes, and the increase does not effect the fan speed scale. Even more Whao....!!!

So, why does it do this?

Peace,
Bruce in Philly

My guess is to make sure the washer fluid does not freeze on the windshield in the winter.

Philster 09-23-2015 11:49 PM

My windshield has never been dirty. :roflmao:

It does it simply because it's built by Germans. No other explanation makes sense.

I am surprised the cup holders don't pop out when cleaning the windshield.

When you spray the windshield washers, the climate control auto selects recirculate. This prevents the smell from entering the car. That also explains the perceived change in fan speed.

Those German engineers, they think of everything.

And when they get caught, they step down.

That's awesome. How did you figure that out?

It makes sense. On any car, when you set the HVAC to recirculate air, the duct path is shorter than if the HVAC is pulling air in from outside, so the blower can spin more freely, thus making it appear that the fan speed has increased.

That's why "MAX A/C" on my Pilot will kick on the recirc, for those times when the car's been sitting in the sun on a hot summer day.

Cool little info piece here.

I remembered reading it in my cayenne's owners manual. Haven't checked the 997 manual. But the behavior is identical.

The German brain is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, I'm glad that they can't leave well-enough alone. They could have churned out twice as many planes and tanks during WWII if they hadn't over-engineered all of their equipment.

On the other hand, when my car presents me with intermittent electrical glitches that can't be diagnosed, I wish that they'd incorporate the K.I.S.S. method into their designs a little more.

Wonder what year it started. My '05 never did that. Idk if it's broken or doesn't have the feature. Manual says nothing about it.
