2007 997 C4S - Engine Won't start after fuel up, P0455 and P0441

Hello Everyone,

I have been searched this everywhere, I have seen some cayenne's had a similar issue and some 996's had this issue but in the 997 couldn't find anything.

There is no symptoms what so ever, when i go gas station, after fuel up, engine crank but wont start, Only way is to get it start is little throttle and after 5 6 seconds than it starts but if I'm off the gas pedal car dies, but if I drive even like 200 feet everything is goes back to normal. starts fine no issues nothing. Beginning i have seen P0455 code and P0441, first thing I did was the replace the gas cap and that clears out the P0455 code away, but the after fuel up not starting issue continues. And P0441 is there, I clean up the code and comes back after day or two.

According to my search I came to conclusion to change "Vapor Canister Filter for Carbon Canister" Let see anything changes after.

In the Cayenne's they change vent line valve or something similar to repair to 996 but in the 997 they changed the design and dont know exactly what to change.

If anyone experiencing something or know anything about it I would appreciate the help Thank you.

PS; Yesterday I have seen a "Failure Fuel Level Indicator Workshop" warning and fuel light start flashing after I fill the tank nothing flashing or no warning.Still has a issue with starting.

Any Idea?

not that this helps but in case you didn't have the full info on 441:

P0441
Fuel tank ventilation system above/below limit value
NOTE
Diagnosis of the tank vent’s permeability is performed by evaluating the force alteration when the tank vent is activated. Depending on the load of the active charcoal filter, the purge air contributes more or less to the formation of the mixture.

This test is performed independently of the output stage diagnosis.
Diagnostic conditions
--Battery positive voltage 11 ... 15.5 V
--Time after engine starts 600 s
--Engine temperature > 60 °C
--Ambient temperature > 3.8 °C
Vehicle speed = 0 km/h
--Correction factor, height > 0.730
--Active charcoal filter load > 2.0
--No faults detected for hot-film mass air flow meter, throttle valve adjusting unit, tank vent output stage, coolant temperature sensor, vehicle speed, idle speed control

Possible fault causes
--Tank vent faulty (stuck open or closed)
--Tank vent installed back to front
--Purge air line leaking
--Purge air line trapped or blocked

Anyone else can chime in?
Like M3RTS, I too am experiencing the same P0441 code each/every time I fill up, and my 2006 C2 Cab has a hard start after each fill up. After a few pumps on the gas pedal will my C2 roar back to life.
Does anyone know if there is a gas vent/purge valve, like the 996 or Cayenne setup? Can't really get a definite answer for 997.1s.
When the weather gets a bit cooler (i'm in Houston), I'll jack up my car and pull back my fender cover to confirm.
I'm hoping someone else has experienced this issue and can add some dialog for a fix.
Many thanks fellow P-owners!

Finally I would have a time for the carbon canister filter this weekend. I would posted after. If anyone have any idea or suggestion I'm open to anything. I already booked a appointment from a dealership for next week. This thing getting embarrassing at the gas station every-time.

Just guessing, might check the fuel pump delivery rate ... for possible fuel pump issue. If you are going to the dealer they should be able to do the test for you.

phunboy 10-12-2015 05:16 PM

M3RTS,
Please let us know what you find out at the dealership on this issue.

Last weekend, I was able to pull back the right front quarter fender liner and confirmed there is not any fuel vent valve present on 997.1. There's a black plastic hose from the fuel neck that looks like it feeds into the charcoal canister assembly in the frunk. I dissassembled the charcoal box, cleaned out all the debris and lines... didn't see any issue with the interior valve. I'll report my start up after fuel up stats on the next go around.

phunboy,

Thank you for the follow up, I did not had a time to change the Carbon Canister Filter, I would try to do it tonite. I have appoint for tomorrow at the dealership. I hate to pay the 170 dollar for the diagnose that I can do it on my obd reader, but they would give me exact solution for the problem. let me know after you fuel up, I would keep posted the updates. Thanks

Hello Everybody,

Issue regarding on the start is related to tank vent vale according to the dealership. part is $560 and labor is 700 so total comes to $1260. I would stop by the shop today to make the decision. =(

phunboy 10-16-2015 10:55 AM

M3RTS,
Ouch!!! $1200 for the fix??! Can you provide what exactly was done, replaced with tank vent valve? Part numbers?
When I went to dealer parts last week, they did not mention this... just canister, fuel vent switch in the canister.
OK, so I filled up my C2 last night and got the hesistant start after fill up. It looks like my issue is exactly like yours... and I will need to go the route you did... just hoping I can DIY to save the labor.... Thanks for your input.

M3RTS 10-17-2015 02:02 PM

phunboy,

Here is the parts, that is going to replace;

1 997-110-129-00 TANK VENT LIN 1 $338.88

2 997-201-733-00 O-RING 1 $12.57

3 997-620-833-00 FUEL-LEVEL SE 1 $212.31

I had a fuel level problem too, so they refer these parts need to change. I got the pricing from the sunset. I allready talked with my own porsche mechanic. He is going to replace it for 250. so total comes around 800. =) =( but I had to pay the dealer to find out the issue is 280. Any finally some we have this issue figured out. I would post the updated next week after installation.

alexb76 10-17-2015 02:13 PM

What year, how many miles? I've never seen this issue before?!

M3RTS 10-18-2015 02:34 PM

alexb76,

I actually couldn't find it anywhere too, I guess its not common but its there. I have 2007 997 C4S.

M3RTS 02-24-2016 04:11 AM

I forget the posted here, after fuel up starting issue has been fixed. It was related to Tank vent line.

tnn 03-17-2017 04:42 PM

hello M3RTS,

i ran across your posting about unable to start the engine after fueling. i have a 2007 997 CS2 Cab and I have the same issue. i got a same readout error code from the durametric tool. I went ahead and bought the Fuel Line Vent part. Same part #. However, I have a hard time locating it in the car. I would very much appreciate any helps in locating this part in the car.

Thanks much in advance.
