DSC Sport - Tuning Software Discussion Thread

Hey guys!

Many of you have anxiously been awaiting the release of the DSC Sport tuning software! It isn't here quite yet, but we are making a lot of progress on the user-friendly version of the software and nearing its release!

In the meantime, we've shot a tutorial video with Mike Levitas demonstrating what you will be able to do with the software. Keep in mind the version of the software you see is the engineering version, not the user friendly version that is currently in development.

We expect you all to have a lot to talk about as we release the software and you all get to try it for yourself. We also expect that you all will want to share and exchange various tuning maps. It is for these reasons that we decided to start a separate discussion thread for the tuning software, aside from the main DSC Sport discussion thread.

Enjoy!

UPDATE NOTE 2022: PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT SOME OF THE INFO FROM THIS 2015 POST IS OUTDATED. FOR CURRENT INFO PLEASE REFER TO DSC SPORT WEBSITE. www.dscsport.com

Link that to GPS and you can have it change the settings on the go.....Map out a track and have it run an algorithm to change it for each corner or some amount of minimum size track segment. Store the track maps on your phone and use WiFi or Bluetooth to send the maps to the DSC box. or use the GPS on your phone for the mapping and send the damping control commands to the DSC box.

A couple of questions...

1) will existing h/w be compatible with this s/w?

2) if it is, should we leave a USB plugged into the DSC and accessible for programming obviating the need to remove the unit from the car?

TIA

- Larry

p.s
991 (GTS) version availability? :)

DEAR GOD ... which version of Windows is that?

Mac port? :)

Hi Larry Cable,

1) Existing hardware is compatible with this software

2) We can't tell you what the best work flow for you is! We usually just remove the unit, but you may find it easier to just leave a USB plugged into the DSC. The software will also be bluetooth compatible in the future; not sure of this feature will be included in the first version or not though.

3) DSC for the 991 GTS will be available by the end of the calendar year!

Ive just installed it into my 997.1. Fantastic so far but am going to a local track I know well next weekend so am very keen to try the mode 3 with the stiffening up of the rear for less understeer.

On the road so far feedback is much more controlled and taut-er, while giving a better ride.

Tom - does mode 3 still have that capability I mentioned above? I seem to remember some conversation regarding this on another thread/forum that I can't find.

The website only mentions:
Mode 1 – Loosely referred to as "comfort" mode, for its limited maximum damping "stiffness" and gradual response rate.
Mode 2 – Loosely referred to as "sport" mode, for its increased maximum damping "stiffness" and faster response rate.
Mode 3 – Best suited for track, for its aggressive response rate and "stiffer" damping range.

Cannot WAIT for the software to come out!

Corner entry understeer is a function of a number of different things. For example, camber, toe, driving technique, just to name a few. DSC helps to reducing understeer by increasing using the outside rear shocks during the entry phase to make the chassis more flat to improve front grip. And as the braking ends the front doesn't pop back up as quickly to manage front tire contact patch. We still encourage keeping a little on the brake as the driver begins to feed in steering.

With all due respect to the efforts here, I really prefer driving the car myself. That is part of the art of racing. Your car was better on some tracks than others, you had to adapt as the driver and make changes in how your approached the turns...sometimes your power was an advantage, others times it was about handling, you had to know and respond to your own cars weaknesses and strengths as well as the cars of your competitors. While I enjoy driving an automated gearbox, I insist on making my own decisions about when to up and down shift. But if I was racing in the Mille Miglia, I'd only want a manual transmission. Simplicity over complexity every day of the week.

But we live in a world absolutely burgeoning with technology so why not take advantage of it? F1 does. So does Lemans. Porsche wouldn't have won (and seconded) without it. If I can get my pasm performing better and helping me out I'm gonna do it. If it makes my car feel nicer (which the dsc does) on the road as well, hell why not.

To each his/her own. Just not my cup of tea. I prefer earning the credit for a great lap time, not having a computer drive the car for me. I also don't like Viagra and condoms and vitural reality.

you should get one of those really old cars where you set the ignition advance and the fuel/air mixture via levers on the steering wheel... :D

Do you like disc brakes, synchros in your transmission, limited slip differentials, coilovers suspensions, or any you other technological advancements...it's the same thing.... yet you drive a PDK car... LMAO

I'll write this as I enjoy my first cup of coffee.

John is an outlier. But aren't we all?

There is a post going on right now about buying an air cooled. A lot of this group indicate they would like that. But a lot also say they would not give up the comfort of the 997. Most would like a sample or two of each type car in their stable.

Some of us want to modify everything about our cars. Some want to stay stock. Most are in between, but there are those that persist at the extremes.

A large group here seem to think that the 991 is too big and cushy. Why shouldn't the 996 group feel that way about the 997? Or the 993 group say that about the 996?

Jay Leno was hanging on in an old 3 wheel Morgan as he negotiated a curve. He was having a ball when he saw a LEO coming the other way. He pulled over immediately. The LEO turned around and Jay was ready for his ticket ... but he was under the speed limit.

It's about the fun as well as the speed. We above all others should realize that can come in a lot of different flavors.

If it weren't for the outliers who search for that car they lusted for in high school, the old classics would be rotting in a land fill. I prefer to see these cars on the road.

The fact that we can have these discussions makes us a lucky bunch. The fact that not everybody agrees on a common thing makes us dynamic. It takes a lot of courage to state your thoughts while getting cut down. Well, that, or you need to be a real A-Hole!

John, you maintain a bit of humor in your undertone. And you have been careful to state that what you say is how you feel and not universal. You've still got my benefit of a doubt.

Drive what you want. That's what it's all about. We should all be as lucky. Viva la difference (or however that gets spelled in French)!

Just my two cents.

I prefer mechanical solutions over electronic solutions. Disc brakes, synchro gears, lsd, coilovers...those are mechanical solutions. The electronics of DSG/PDK still suffers from technological fragility that is built into the system. The sport chrono package in my 997.1 was a silly gimmick. I simply left it on all the time as I had no interest in riding in a Buick. My wife liked the soft floaty mode but I didn't. Nor did I think much of the replacement costs of the shocks compared to simple normal shocks.

If you love the new cars, more power to you. I prefer a dip stick and a spare tire and a car like the 964 and 993. If I get back in a Porsche it will be one of those.
