997 Launch Editions check in!
How many owners we have on here with the 997 launch edition example?
Roughly 337 of these were produced for 2005 and they came in black on black with PCCB and just about every other option offered.

I might have had one. '05 C2S black on black, full leather, Bose, Sport Chrono, PCCBs. Can you tell by VIN #? I say had, because it's now pink pearl, the PCCBs were moved to my R-Kompressor and my Big Reds over to this car, but painted wihite, and it's now wearing GT3 wheels. It's my wife's DD.

Doug M checked mine for me and although it has similar equipment, is not a 997.1 launch edition. I thought it might not be since it has the larger, non-serviceable IMS bearing and was "excluded from the class" when I entered the VIN into the lawsuit website, which usually means it's a later '05 build.

I almost bought one, but it was ragged out. Probably one of the worst 997.1s I'd ever seen.
It was reaaaaaaaallllllllyyyyyyy tempting. Was listed in New Jersey, if memory serves, but the paint and body was in horrible shape, the interior looked like an animal had been living in it, and all the trim, buttons, and even the gauge cluster had scractches, marks, stickyness, etc. all around it.
And someone had chromed the wheels. They were asking $35k.
What a waste. Maybe if I wanted to build a track car, that would have been acceptable.
I found a similar car in Alabama, but I don't think it was a launch edition, though similarly equipped. I didn't realize they were that rare.

997 Launch Editions check in!
I have one, picked it up 6 months ago from carmax of all places, was worried about the IMS but had a PPI within the 5 day return agreement to find out that it had a new engine in 2010. As mentioned it has every option but no sports exhaust!!!!!

PM your VIN to Doug M and he can look it up for you. If you've had it decoded already for options, I think there's one that says Launch Package or something like that.

Here's mine. Kind of sad - I rarely have an opportunity to drive it but it's still pretty IMO.
Debating on whether or not to go with the LN bearing or not.
43K miles. No issues or crazy sounds.
Oil changes work out to something like 5K miles or less.
Next one will be more like 1K miles.

What a beauty. The big yellows on a black Carrera really stand out, i've never seen another on the street either.
My recommendation is to do the LN bearing upgrade. I drive mine daily and decided to do it about 2 years ago when I was 52,000 miles. I'm now at 75,990 miles and the car runs flawless I love it. (Original bearing was in perfect condition and sits on my desk as a paper weight, but it's good peace of mind...just make sure you check in about who you are going to have do it - there are shops that charge 5,000 and then there are shops that charge less then 2k.) Make sure it's LN recommended.

Well, since we are sharing pictures, here's an action photo of mine at a recent AX event. Yellow calipers show quite nicely even at speed. 53k and no problems. Have had nightmares about IMS failure but have learned to live with it. School of thought out there that if it hasn't happened by now, likelihood that it does is reduced. Maybe when I need a new clutch . . .
