IMS question regarding 2005 run
all,
just sold my C4S and actively looking a later model - wanted a turbo but thinking of a 997
are all 2005 cars affected with the IMS issue? i thought i remembered reading that it was the first 1/2 of 2005 cars but not sure
any way to tell using VIN#?
thanks in advance

Pulling the trans is the only 100% way. Later half of '05 S models were more likely to get the larger bearing - both of my '05 C2S cars have it. The other thing you can do is use the IMS class action website as a tool to enter your VIN and it will tell you whether the car is included in the class, which means it has the smaller, replaceable, more prone to failure bearing it that it's excluded from the class, which means it has the larger, non-serviceable serviceable bearing.

Here's the direct link to the archived VIN search page if it still works

The 997.1 Turbo and GT3 are based on a different engine and do not have an Intermediate Shaft, so no IMS bearing. Both of those models do have an engine with a cooling system fault that can spray slippery coolant all over your back tires though, so get that addressed if you buy one of them.

Seems the site is gone. You can try this to manually look it up.

The VIN and engine number will tell you NOTHING that's accurate. That's because Porsche's records were not kept well in the case of the IMSB.
I ha e a directive all about the 05 specific details regarding IMS Retrofit.
