About to get a 997 hopefully. What is the difference in 997.1 and 997.2?

Quite a bit actually. Engine, visual, exterior light changes, interior.

Here's a good place to start. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_997

a newer year car is always improved, sometimes minor, sometimes a whole different car, the 997.2 is a whole lot more, it is almost the same as a 2015 car except the body

since you're a self proclaimed noobie, I'll kindly pass along the best advice available. Do a search. The topic has been discussed to death.

The 997.2 has a completely new engine design (9A1) with direct fuel injection. ( eliminating the entire immediate shaft with its bearing life issue ) It also includes updates electronics for the interior user interface, slightly improved suspension etc etc.

A mid-cycle model update occurred. The 997 Carrera series is from 2005-2012. The 997.1 sub model is from 2005-2008. The 997.2 sub model is from 2009-2012. Generally features are the same within the sub-model, but are updated when moving to the .2 version. Examples include automatic transmission, DFI engine, interior electronics, and so on.

Sounds like your first Porsche. My advice - take your time finding the best specimen your budget allows. You will see a few you think you want right away. Don't settle for a quick purchase.

Thanks all, and BTW I know how to search. I'll try to do that since a few on here obviously have very busy lives and don't have the time to talk cars. Wait, this IS a forum, right?

You can tell people to Google every question on here. I'm sure there is VERY little original content on this or any other forum. You should participate kindly or move on to a thread you have deemed worthy of a thoughtful response.

Lots of different personalities out there.

Dont't take it personally.
Most people on here will help you out.
Enjoy your search and good luck.
Make sure you let us know what you end up with.

I did participate kindly as far as I'm concerned. My advice of doing a search would result in instant results on a topic that has been discussed many times over the years. When I have a question I would prefer fast through answers over a slow trickle of responses where details are revealed spread out of over several days.

This is a great forum and resource for information. My opinion is that doing searches yields faster more detailed results. Maybe thats not your opinion, but hey... Lot's of opinions are what make this forum great.

+1.

I do searches for topics I need to know more about- and more than half the time - the threads dissolve into conversations and discussions when i just want clear answers. But i still love rennlist
