The problem with Mobil 1 is that your Autocorrect wants to make it read "Mobile", which makes you look stupid. You won't have that problem with Motul. My current fill is Liqui Moly and it's a pain back-spacing the "d" out an Autocorrected "Liquid". Again, Motul for the win.

Aren't you comparing oil pressure between 5w-40 and 0w-40 oils ? They won't be the same. I'm sure you would agree that going to Shell Rotella 15w-40 full synthetic is going to give you alarming good oil pressure, and mechanical cushioning to boot, but it won't work well in the long run. Just make sure you are comparing all things on a equal basis. Also, how about the 1st 15 seonds, you need flow to get rod bearing oil on those cylinder walls. If there is a weak point, it is scroring, not journal wear.

I think we can all agree much more important than oil is how often you change it...

i'd recommend all of you that are so worried just use your favorite approved oil and change it like every 1k miles or before and after every track event. I mean it takes no time at all, at that point its just money right.

Probably would do ALOT more for you than deciding which porsche oil to use...

To be safe I started to change my oil after each drive, but I'm contemplating now not to even start the engine anymore and just sit in it, or roll it around the driveway.

I just picked up three 5 quart jugs of Mobile 1 5w 30. Oh ya, you read that correctly. I am on that bleeding edge. Why not 0w 40? Pure radical entertainment value. No other reason.

you realize, i assume, that he was talking about warm oil pressure, at which point 5w-40 and 0w-40 would be of similar viscosity (not identical as there is a 40wt CST range)

If my Rabbit can take M1 0-40 then my 911 sure as hell should be able to. What's good for the parent company should be good for the problem child.

Ooops I think I made a mistake... I thought I was buying a Mobil 1 A40 but a higher viscosity for the hot weather and 2+ hours each way on I95 at high speeds I've been doing. I actually grabbed their "Extended Performance" by accident which is not Porsche approved A40 (I thought it was when I grabbed it). So I think I will take it back... BUT....

Some questions (since we have so many experts here):

1) Anyone have the latest list of Porsche approved, A40 oils? I found one on the net but it may be out of date. The list I found provided 13 different Mobil 1 oil types and viscosities (as well as two types of Motul oils). It looks like it lists about 120 different types of oils and brands.

2) A Porsche A40 recommended oil for my car is Mobil 1 5W-50 where my manual notes this grade is for ambient temps greater than -13 F. That is cold! So..... why would I not just run 5W-50 all the time as I live in Philly and haven't seen that temp like ever? Aren't these "heavier" oils better lubricators than say a 0W-40 (both of which are Porsche approved A40)? If it doesn't really matter, why even give me the choice?

3) Give the Porsche approved list above...... and let's say we wanted to choose an oil on the list..... how in the heck does one choose one over the other? This question is different that "what is the best oil" as when I read these, I am never sure the oil recommended is on the Porsche list. So.... given that this is so darn long, we can have quite an entertaining time choosing within this list.

Yeah be careful if you sit in the car the side bolsters will wear out and the value will drop! Probably best to just push it around.

FWIW, those numbers are also in the low side of the range for Motul Xcess 5W40.

... ummm ... I like Motul in my manual car and Mobil 1 in my PDK car. Because,
Motul > Mobil 1 and manual > PDK. There's really not much more to say ... (oops, maybe I got that backwards), ok never mind.
