Default Hankook V12 Ventus on the 997?

Michelin Pilot SuperSports have been on back order since February. I had a set of V12 Ventus' on my 996 (18") and thought they were a great value.

Anybody have any recent experience with them on your 997?

I could go PS2's but the price difference is huge. My rears are shot so I don't have time to wait on the SuperSports...

Too bad, MPSS's are da bomb. I'm nearing the end of life of my PS2's. Hope the stock comes back. On TireRack it's the 295 rears that are the problem.

FWIW, I had Ventus tires on my 997.2 and I did not like them. Too noisy and harsh, particularly compared to the Michelins. They are a comparative bargain in terms of price but I would opt for Michelins.

I just put Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions on mine. They were the second best tire (first was Michelin) in someones tire test.

Besides, they are also on sale at TireRack.

Check Mavis or Costco.

I'm in my second pair of Hankook's on my 997.1. Great value however...slow to warm up when driving hard and not as sticky as PSS. They cost more but I'm going back to the Michelins.

v12's are ok at best for street use. not ok for tracking, except at very beginner level

they seem to have a soft sidewall but at the same time they get noisy once the tread is down 30-40%...not a good combo

if not the mpss i would think about conti dw's or b-stones long before hankooks

My wife has the evo2 version on her 997.1 DD and we've been very pleased with them although she's not running canyons, but rather putting 15-20k miles/year on the car doing her Mom duties. What were more important to us were tire wear and good wet weather handling since she drives it every day. On both of those criteria, they're great. Because they have a directional tread pattern, they displace water very well, even in very heavy rain, but cannot be rotated side to side on the car without a dismount / remount. If others had the 1st generation of this tire that might be the reason for the less than stellar reviews as I read similar opinions from people who tried both. No point in paying 50% more for tires if you'll never use the additional capability the way the car is used 95% of the time.

For those looking for the 295 width of the MPSS, just bump up to a 305 as that's also a standard tire width from the factory on some 997 NB cars and what I run on both of ours - gets you 10 more mm of traction back there (not noticeable).

I like the kind of tire that wears a long time
but if you think the M is the way to go, I also had a set of toyo proxe 1 that had the exact same tread pattern as the michelin

Agree with many here, not a fan of that tire. Not a fan of Hankook in general. I stick with Michelins, but like the Yoko AD08 tire a lot too.

Try Michelin pilot super sports. Best value for performance, quietness (if that's a word) and quality in my opinion

V12's are a decent summer street tire. They're okay in the wet, too.

PSS's are good tires, but they're too expensive to use as a day-to-day tire.

I don't know why so many people rave about them, honestly. I'd rather have a set dedicated for daily street driving and another set for track or autocross days. No compromises there.

This!! When my Turbo was delivered all it took was driving it down the road to realize I really did not like the V12's. Ordered MSS within hours of receiving the car.
