If you keep the roof open in Texas you are eliminating the majority of issues. Most rattling occurs when closed and specifically when the cabin is cold. My roof in the winter was obnoxious on some mornings, but definitely improved with the cabin heating up. I don't notice it at all now that spring is here and the roof is open.

Maybe its the heat then.. i dont have any rattle with it closed, even over potholes

There is a Porsche Service Technical Bulletin to fix Targa roof motor rattles and other roof alignment issues in Targas manufactured between October 2006 and January 2007. If your car falls in this manufacturing date window (check the date of manufacture in the plate on the drivers side door pillar), it might be in need of these fixes, in which case talk to the dealer.
997.1 Targas are awesome - congratulations.
