Default thump, thud, thunk

Hi all,
I have a 2006 CS2 with 50k and I'm thinking original clutch. Everything is good except when I am in a parking lot or in my neighborhood and I'm in first gear going slow 5-10 mph, when I press in the clutch to stop there is a clunk, thud or something from the transmission. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Thanks. I'll do that. It also only happens if I'm decelerating and my foot's not on the gas.

One way to test is to blip your throttle and see if your exhaust tips move up and down excessively.

I have a similar issue

when I drive, and pull up at a stop or light, I press in clutch and put gear in neutral, the let clutch out. If I do it fast or moderately fast, I get a clunk or thud from the back- can feel it in the seat of pants.

if I do it slow- It does not do it.

In common with all these is torque on the engine suddenly changes. The engine is torqued one way, clutch goes in, no more torque, engine settles, clunk. The engine is not torqued at all, clutch goes out, suddenly the engine twists in the mounts, clunk. Its worn motor mounts. Funny this is like the third shot motor mounts thread this month. Er, I mean last month. Year. Dang you know what I mean there's been a lot lately!

Simple test......... apply the parking brake and slowly let out the clutch while in gear just enough to make the car want to go forward. If you hear a clunk...its the motor mounts. Do the above while in reverse to unseat or reseat the mounts. Again, if you hear a clunk, its the motor mounts or some other suspension component worn.

Ok, mounts are suspect. Trans or engine? Do they fail prematurely on these cars? Only 26k now.

I have had the car since august. So still new to me.

You may have only driven 26k miles, but how many bumps etc., along with the fact those mounts are at least 9 years old now.

Yes they can go that early. Shouldn't, but sometimes do. The way they work, the widely separated engine mounts take most of the torsional loads while the trans mounts mostly take some weight and vibration. So its almost always the motor mounts that go. At 50k I would replace both. At 26k its more of a judgment call.

did the test in gear with handbrake on. had buddy watch pipes. no noticeable movement of the tail pipes. changed clutch and MT fluid. no difference. Used OE fluids.

I also get a very similar sound, if when

engine running, car rolling, in neutral, clutch pedal on floor, and try to push gear lever into first. I get a noticeable clunk, there is resistance to putting it into gear. once I come to a stop I can get it into gear easier without much clunk. normal?

adjust shift linkage?

Coincidentally enough I've recently been having the same problem. Posted on another forum with zero replies so far.

I recorded the clunk, apologies for not wearing any shoes:

several years later...

still have thunk. I replaced all the mounts....and rebuilt the engine (Flat 6) and replaced the clutch.

Still have the thunk.

Does this car have a Dual Mass Flywheel?

How about checking the sway bar links. I Remember having thumping on my E46 M3 as you describe and the sway bar links were shot. Changed them and thumping at very low speeds stopped.
