Default Michelin PSS national backorder?

So I went to my local tire dealer today, who is a savvy guy, and he called a bunch of places trying to get a replacement set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Fronts, no problem, but he's been told that 305's (what I have) AND 295's are on national backorder.

So is he not casting his net far enough (included Tire Rack) ? What's the deal with the national backorder? Does anyone know of a timeframe for meeting the backlog ?

This is a well known issue. Call Damon at the Tire Rack and get on the waiting list.

How baldly do you need new tires.
if they are sparking when you drive, you shouldn't wait.
Find something else.
If they are not an emergency, get a realistic delivery time.
Decide from there.

Thanks, knew about 305's, but didn't think Michelin would drop the ball on replacement rears for 911's entirely. Does anyone know what the typical (if there is one ) wait period is ??

Not the only car in the garage, so I have the luxury of some time.

Call or PM Damon at the Tire Rack.

This has nothing to do with Michelin's support or lack thereof for the 911. It's not even an N rated tire (not suggesting a discussion about whether or not it needs to be). Michelin didn't drop the ball. It's sportscar season. Everyone wants new performance tires in April and May for the summer. Speaks volumes about the SS's capabilities and market success.

Damon doesn't know when the 295 or 305 will be available again. Michelin hasn't said anything to TireRack.

I had to have new tires and went with the Bridgestone S-04.

Same scenario as you. Chose the same tire (Bridgestone Pole Position S-04). They're ok I guess.

I was told 10+ weeks of back order. Even then it's all the people on the waiting list that are getting them first. Michelin supposedly isn't producing them at the moment.

Hmmm...since this is a an issue that has been occurring for 2+ years, summer or fall, Michelin has dropped the ball.

Probably best to just purchase a set of rears before they are needed and keep my own stock if Michelin can't better anticipate demand...

Then send a letter to the CEO of Michelin and tell him to stop dropping the ball.

For every 295 and 305 tire Michelin makes, they make a million tires in "normal" sizes.

If you were running the company, what tire would you have your plants produce?

Great timing. Just requested an appointment online with my tire shop yesterday when ordering 4 Michelin Super Sports. Wondered why I haven't heard back!

You could buy used.

Just make sure you know what to look for ... A tread depth gauge, tire durometer are must-have tools.

Put your order in (on the waiting list) from tire rack and they will come in sooner than you think.

This seems to be an annual thing.
What I did last time was get them put on before winter storage so as not to scramble in the spring.
