997 Stone Guards Replaced

Stone guards replaced.

I purchased a set of OEM parts (997-504-826-04 and 997-504-825-04) from an online shop but item was delivered in damaged condition, box was smashed and parts had dirty marks. Shop refunded my order and they didn't request to return the parts (I used these damaged parts later to create my template).

After the online shop issues, I decided to order the parts from my local dealer but, in the meantime, I found a video from carfanatic (I think he is a rennlist member) and I decided to give it a try:
youtube.com/watch?v=O0IcnZ1JE30

Removing the parts was easy. I just left the car in the sun (Florida/Summertime) for 30 min and started to peel them off from the top to the bottom. Almost no residue was left behind. I then cleaned the area with P21S Paintwork Cleanser following with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol.

I used the damaged OEM parts to create my template. In my first attempt to install the driver’s side I realized that I added too few baby shampoo to the water mix. The part wasn't sliding properly and it got stickied in some points creating marks on the film. It was OK but I later replaced the entire piece. The passenger's side was easier to install.

Some things I learned in the process:
- Get a brand new scissors to cut the film.
- After marking the film with a permanent marker, wait at least 30 min to start cutting it.
- Do not try to clean the film with alcohol, it removes the clear coat.
- More baby shampoo is better than less. I think a good mix is 2 soup spoons of baby shampoo and 26 oz of water. Shake it a little before spraying it.
- Don't be afraid of spraying shampoo/water mix to your car and on the film. The more you spray, the better.
- Keep in mind that the film is stretchable. I started to install it from the top and could manage to stretch it while finishing the bottom to align it with the rocker panel line.
- Patience is the key. If you make a mistake, don't panic! Just carefully pull the film off, spray both sides, spray the panel and try again. You can play with the film for hours as long as you keep it wet.

Overall, I am very happy with the results. In a scale from 0-10 I would give it (myself ahaha) a 9.5. Car looks much much much better and cleaner now!

These are Euro style side markers. I got them from suncoast.

It's an easy DIY project. I recommend you to search for "997 clear side markers installation" on youtube.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S PS4S 235/35 front and 305/30 rear

Moved from other thread.
** Thank you to the members that contributed to the thread. **

In need of new shoes, I decided to, while replacing tires, lower the car with Eibach Pro-Kit and add spacers to give it a more sportier look. Doing it all at same time will save me $350 in labor. I opted for Eibach to give the car a more conservative look. The perfect height IMO is the 997 with S-PASM suspension, which is 20mm lower than the 997 C2 with base suspension. Eibach lowers the car around 1" (25,4mm), which is very close to 20mm.

Here is the setup:

Stock Turbo II Wheels NB
Front 8" x 19" ET57
Rear 11" x 19" ET67

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S PS4S
Front 235/35
Rear 305/30

Eibach Pro-kit Performance Springs
Part: 7217.140

Adaptec Spacers
Front 10mm
Rear 15mm

Tires were delivered last Friday, just one day after placed my order on tirerack. Very impressive fast shipping! Eibach kit is on the way. Lenny from Adaptec promissed to ship the spacers today.

You can't go wrong with Driver's Choice. They have the best tire mounting machines money can buy plus laser alignment equipment. Michael guaranteed no scratches on my wheels... he knows I am picky ahahah.

I opted for the Michelin PS4S because I like it's sidewall design. But I was tempted to order the S04 at around $1k.

I hope to see you around at a local Cars and Coffee someday.

Unfortunately, I am having a hard time with Adaptec. I emailed them on Oct/26 to check the availability of the parts. I got reply from the owner stating they had the parts in stock and he would be shipping them no later than Monday Oct/30. Placed my order on Oct/27 but parts have not been shipped yet. He blames SEMA.

Kind of disappointed since they are rennlist sponsors.
