Is the "black edition" really worth more?
I test drove a 2012 Black Edition 911 Carrera S with 40k miles today and they were asking 65k.
Other than the year, that seemed like a hefty price to pay for a 997 911.
Is the Black Edition really worth that much more? It seemed like a base 911 other than the "Black Edition" in the sense that it didn't have PASM, PSE or really any option worth noting.
Opinions?

I always thought the "Black Edition" was kind of a gimmick. "Look, this one has nothing special that anyone really wants but it all BLACK!

The "Black" Edition is just another program by Porsche to get more money from you. Take a look at all the Anniversary Editions that Porsche has issued over the last years. It is only "worth" what someone else is willing to pay for it

At this point i'm fairly certain i'll be picking up a 2014 Cayman S. I've taken many cars out over the last 2 weeks and that's the only one I can't stop thinking about.

Well that explains it's performance... I test drove it before a 2013 TTRS and the Audi put it to shame as far as acceleration is concerned.

Cayman S is a phenomenal choice if you go that direction. That's what I wanted at first but needed back seats for my kids.

It's kind of like the old Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition or that Chrysler John Varvatos edition IMO. I think it would have been better with some resto-mod Fuchs and a ducktail.

I agree. Black edition is a gimmick. Definitely doesn't deserve a premium based on the options provided but as soon as anyone attaches a cute name like "black edition" people think it's special.

1. Well optioned Cayman for 55-60
2. Poorly optioned Cayman for 50
3. Moderately optioned Cayman S for low 60s
I haven't actually driven a Cayman S yet so I need to do that and see if i'd rather have the "S" or options.

Now, now, now. Don't y'all be haters! The Black Edition was actually a well priced 911 new. It had over $10k in options built in to a car that was not much more than base price. Road & Track and Car & Driver both said so.
Mine has PASM by the way. Thought that was standard too.
Of course it was a gimmick, but a fine looking car it is...if you like black. Plus it is special, I mean, there are only 1911 of them and most were sold in Europe (it's not just Americans who can be swindled by those crafty Germans).
I really want to paint my brake calipers red, but that would be sacrilegious, wouldn't it?

My buddy has a Black Edition and it is a beautiful car. From the wheels to the rear valance. Its different and is worth whatever someone will pay as someone else said.

60% of used 997's are black editions, 39% is white, silver, and grey editions. It's the blue, green, and other editions that I am interested in.
