Default Recommended 997 book?

Hello all, this forum is a GREAT resource and full of info and wonderful folks however I'm old school too and want to pick up a reference book for 997s. Sometimes I just want to curl up with a book and read and look at pics.

Any recommendations? TIA

I bought this book after I got my 08 T4S. I agree it's a great book, but loses its value after you buy. What I mean is, I wish I had it before I bought--the information in the book is invaluable for those that are looking to buy a 997. It still has a lot of useful information.

Indeed. I bought my book about a year before I bought my car (actually I think I picked it up shortly after it was first published), and it was an excellent resource. Still, the breakdown of the various models, sub-models and the numerous options is nice to read through. I like how it is model specific, unlike, say, the Paul Frere tome.

PM me your email and I'll send you a pdf of the Porsche Product Information publication - 117 pages, published when 997 first released.

I have Sports Car and Competition Driving by Monsieur Frere. It's a great book. One, which I hope my better half will finish (she's on year three, still stuck on the chapter about gearchanges).

I didn't realize he made a book on 911s, but I vaguely recall seeing a plug about it on the back ...

It does - but the book was written in the UK, so everything re: pricing is in GBP. Might not be that useful, depending where you are of course. I believe one of the writers runs a well known Porsche pre-purchase inspection service there.

Adrian Streather is writing an Essential 997 book which I believe is scheduled to be published in April 2015.

Adrian was one of the RL old-timers however something happened to sour him and he is no longer a part of the community. Nevertheless he has written excellent Porsche books:

Focus is on the technical development. 911 books by other authors I've read focus on the personalities of the engineers and management. Frere notes who is doing the engineering and who is making the decisions without getting into their motivations.

I find that approach a bit dry. The differences in, say, roll bar thickness year by year doesn't do it for me. Two really good auto development books I've read are one on the Lotus Elise, and another on the McLaren F1. Both went step by step, personalities and engineering reasoning too. And lots of pictures, lol!!

I have Adrian's 996 book, and have pre-ordered his 997 book. IMO, excellent independent coverage, a bible!

He already has a 997 book out that covers the 997.1. The edition to be published in May is an update, which will include the 997.2

(Full disclosure: pics of my ex-6GT3 were included in the 996 book, and, I believe, pics of my 997GTS will appear in the updated 997 book. I met Adrian in 2005, and spent a week with him at the 24-Hours of Le Mans.)

Thanks for the info Joe. This looks to be the book I have in mind.

Thanks to everyone's recommendations too.
