He already has a 997 book out that covers the 997.1. The edition to be published in May is an update, which will include the 997.2

Porsche 997: Porsche Excellence (Essential Companion): Adrian Streather: 9781845846206: Amazon.com: Books

(Full disclosure: pics of my ex-6GT3 were included in the 996 book, and, I believe, pics of my 997GTS will appear in the updated 997 book. I met Adrian in 2005, and spent a week with him at the 24-Hours of Le Mans.)
Pre-ordered.

This book on the first generation Porsche 911 (997) is the fifth of six planned...
I hope the new one includes the dot 2. Maybe Amazon just got lazy and copied and pasted the old description

Could very well be. I've been in direct contact with Adrian, and he assures me the 997.2 will be covered. I will reconfirm.

I have confirmed directly with Adrian that the edition to be released in May will cover the 997.2.

^ Second this! Bought it for my wife about two weeks after we bought her car (2011 Carrera S Cab). About 150 pages, chock-full of information.

I saw this post the other day and almost forgot to come back to it...

I picked up a copy of the hardcover brochure touting the advances in the 2nd Gen 997s when they came out for the 2009 model year. It is a little pricey to get one on eBay, but that is the only place I know to find one now. Here is one of the eBay listings currently for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-2nd-...item5b0e5db008

It gives a lot of details I haven't seen elsewhere. I don't know if you were interested in 997.2 info or something broader though.

Thanks for the link. I just might pick that up too :-)

Those who have ordered the Essential Companion......have you received it yet? I pre-ordered mine in Dec 2014 and Amazon says they need more time to ship the order (?).

I wonder what the book will say about no spare tires...and about the first generation of PDK. The lack of a real spare tire is what, for me, seperates a true drive anywhere car from a weekend poser. Planning trips based on the availability of flatbeds and tirestores isn't what I consider a practical car.

I've inquired of the author. Will report back.

Never considered these a "practical car." I guess we have different views, but I don't even consider breakdowns, therefore, "flatbeds and tire stores." My trip planning is all about the roads (and potty stops ) I and my compatriots do 1500-3000 mi multi-day trips without trepidation.

Reply from the author: It won’t be out until April 2016 at the earliest. I’m behind (I have no control over any publication issues I’m just the independent writer) because I responded to initial criticism via you and others last year that the book would only cover the 1st gen 997s (996s in drag). I have now made it for the entire 997 series, but this decision has changed the book immensely, and created an enormous amount of extra work.

I'd say that a "weekend poser" is someone that never takes a 911 into the Wild.

As Joe suggests, get over your complaining about this and that and drive the SOF and you will forget about your projected issues with PDK and flat tires. Or just get an appliance for your practical car and leave us to enjoy these fine sports cars as they are intended.

Here is Joe looking for the next potty break...fortunately he didn't have to go for another 120 miles!
