Default $974 for shifter cable replacement

Does that seem really high for anyone that has had it done. Seems very high to me. Not an option as it's at the dealer but damn, a grand for some cables seems a bit high

It a little high. I'll check my invoice from my Indy when I get home. But I think it was ~$400 for the part and 2-3hrs labor, $700-800ish.

Happened to mine several years ago but IIRC it was $500 for the parts, plus labor. My 3rd-party extended warranty paid for it.

Checked with my Indy...it's 2-3 hrs of labor at roughly $100/hr. plus parts.

Just had mine replaced about a month ago at an Indy shop; $547 including OEM parts. Of course areas will be different, some higher and some lower but I'd shop around a bit.

Ugh, hope my cable hangs on for several years. That's not the kind of "mod" we care to spend $1k on.

Suppose u could always tow it home and diy it. Or tow it to another shop.

It made it to the dealer somehow ...

Look at an Indi shop and then go look at an authorized dealer's shop. And the dealer is fronting lots of money until they get reimbursed for warranty work. Plus probably paying much higher property taxes, insurance premiums, benefits costs, phone costs, electrical bills, salaries...and they would also like to make enough of a profit to put something in their pockets.

I get it. They always give me either a cayenne or pani loaner. They flat bedded the truck in Saturday morning and it was done Tuesday night. Great dealership and they always take care of me like I had a 180k turbo. It just seems pricey for a cable. I will say it is like driving a new car. The shifts are super crisp. They aren't notchy or hard to get into first (any gear for that matter) even though it's in the 20's outside.

Why wouldn't you tow it to another indy mechanic? It would be MUCH cheaper to tow it again.

I had some wheel balanced at this place. The experience was similar to the dealership experience. It's geared towards german cars. One of their mechanics is s porsche guy. I only had wheels balanced there, but my experience was good enough to recommend them. It's in Montgomery County, but not terribly far from where you are. http://www.germanautospecialist.com/mobile/
