the door hinges look the same the door catch looks the same, the weather stripping looks the same, but the sound the new doors make when you close is so much more solid! The only difference I see is that solid steel ear at the bottom of the door that goes into a slot in the car's body. Does this minimize the doors vibration when it closes and creates the more solid thunk when you close the door?

Might just be because it's newer and the guts haven't had time to work loose. My '09's doors sounded like vault doors when I first got the car. Now they're pretty rattle-y.

Or there are lose items in the bin or inside the door cover. My '10 w/ 25k miles sounds as solid as new.

One thing I know for sure they do not sound the same. Some will claim their 997.2 doors are solid, they are probably right, but the newer doors sound so different in the better way. To realize this, go to a dealer and slam the door of a new car. Slam the door, with the same strenght on a 997. You will know what I mean. Slam means close the door, and not mean to manhandle them.
