Default 997.1 values

Hi There:

I'm a long time member/lurker and recently decided it's finally time to enter the water cooled fray. I recently sold my SC hotrod and felt it was time for something new at this stage of life.

I've always loved the 997 and have been looking on and off for the past several months. Prices on the 05-06 Carrera S seem to be all over the map -- specifically, lofty prices on ebay which languish for months.

Curious if anyone here has pulled the trigger on an 05 or 06 S lately to see what the real world prices are. I'm well versed in the IMS issues and realize that upgraded cars move a bit faster, in addition to certain colors.

Thx,

Rob

Location? Location effects pricing also.

Since I recently just purchased myself, I will pass on my purchase:
2006 C2S with 2 owners, 17K on the odo. All dealer maintenance history from both owners, new pilot sports just installed, and 30K maintenance performed due to vehicle age. Not a single dent or scratch on the car anywhere.
Not a high optioned C2S, seal gray on black, power seats, bose, heated seats, self dimming mirrors, sports wheel, nav and some other BS...
We agreed upon $46K he was asking $48,900. I was really looking to pick the car up for $44-45K but since the car was only 60 miles from my home, very clean and had all the options I felt was needed and I did not have to travel and take my chances on any long distance cars for sale, we met in the middle.
Hope this helps you with your process...

Thanks guys. I'm located in Northern NJ.

I've seen plenty of nice cars fail to sell around the 45K mark, this includes cars with clean histories, nice options and reasonable mileage.

Nicely optioned cars with low miles are in their 40s. NJ/NY area tend to be higher priced.

Sold my '86 and bought my '05 C2S this past spring from a Porsche dealership for $39,9k with 40k miles. The price rose a couple thousand after I added a 3rd radiator and new water pump, thermo, drive belt, and the sport mode retrofit and it'll probably rise a few thousand more once I have the tranny dropped to replace the IMS, assuming it ends up having a replaceable bearing. So yeah, around mid 40's.

I just bought an '05 launch edition from carmax today with 24k on the clock for $40K. They tried to increase the price to $43K after I told them it had the PCCB brakes but they ended up honoring the orgional price. Nice thing is the carmax warranty gives me peace of mind about the IMS troubles with the '05. Have a PPI scheduled for Friday within the 5 day return window if they find something nasty.

That's immense value for a 997 especially a launch edition. I've had one for over 5 years now - I love that car.

Thanks. I have been looking for a while and when this came up I jumped on it. Btw the 5 year carmax warranty was $2600 on top of the $40k price.

Do you know how you find out what number of launch edition you have? I did a vin lookup and got all the options but no production number.

Bought an '06 Seal Gray C2S with 23k miles last August for $45k.

I think '05 C2S's are a bit discounted due to being a 1st year or the buyer's market is wary of the IMS issue. I've seen examples with low miles sell for $40k.

Would a mint condition 2006 seal gray C4S coupe with factory aerokit, X-51, just over 18K miles, and located in Washington DC interest you? It has impeccable service history, full documentation, plus a binder filled with DIY literature. I'm being reassigned to Kuwait this summer which is forcing the sale. It's one of 6 C4S coupes optioned this way in 2006. I'd like it to go to someone who appreciates the car for what it is, and I'm certainly willing to let it go for a fair price.

I spoke of the car in post #612 of the "Let's see your 997" thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post11639869

Just a side note, but any 997S will have the 3.8L M97 motor with the larger non-replaceable IMS. The non-S 997 started with the M96 in 2005, and cut over to the 3.6L M97 sometime in late 2005. I'm yet to see a definitive list by VIN of when the cut over occurred, but you can tell by the engine SN.

It's been my understanding that M97 just designates the 3.8 engine, the 3.6 engines always used an M96 designation, and the early built M97's can have the older-style, replaceable bearing. I've seen at least 1 other Rennlist user with an 05 C2S (M97) claim that he had his IMS bearing replaced with an LN upgrade and he posted pics of the original bearing that was taken out, which was in perfect condition.

I have yet to drop my tranny to check mine out but once I do I will definitely post the results. My build date is Oct 04 so I'm expecting a replaceable IMSB.
