I was talking with the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Clause at cars & coffee last weekend and all three of them believe there will be a stick shift 911 5 years from now.

If Porsche truly does plan to eliminate the 3 pedals experience from 911's, Caymans's and Boxter's within the next 5 years then those of us who have a 911 with 3 pedals should feel good about having what will soon become a collectors car of sorts.

I've driven PDK's, 997.2 and 991. I've put it in so-called manual mode and shifted it (well, flicked is a better word) by hand. It feels like an automatic. Boring. If I have to settle for an automatic I'll go back to a Merc. I'd rather have a Mini or a Fiat 500 with a stick than a Porsche with an automatic. I can't stop Porsche from deciding to go 100% PDK but if I can't have one with a stick then I won't be having one.

Doubtful. Look at Ferrari that hasn't offered a 6sp manual in almost 6 years. Resale prices for 360's and 430's with 6sp manual is roughly the same as for F1 equipped cars.

A gratuitous, ignorant and prejudicial comment, if I ever seen one.

Are all current 991 GT3 owners "latte sippers not drivers"?

I drive both a PDK car and a 5 speed Porsche. The PDK is much a driver shift as the manual, if one knows how to use it. Yeah, it's got an auto mode, but it can be used as a proper manual sequential.

not quite true... there is definitely a premium for 6sp Ferraris where they were the less-produced variant. premium is starting to widen... look at 355s and 360s, there is a premium for the manuals, like for like. Obviously need to exclude the CS. simple supply/demand in that market.

If you factor in that the ferraris with paddles initially sold at premium, the price acceleration of stick is even more dramatic (stick examples now exceed the f1 tranny cars)... in 10 years, premium will be much wider as % of price, no question about it.

I have both and like both in their own ways. Problem with PDK, no matter how great it is, it'll end up in auto mode after the novelty of shifting with paddles wears off and it becomes an automatic transmission, whether in sports or sports+ mode. So it gets boring after awhile. In a perfect world with no traffic, 6 speed all the way but we are not in a perfect world. Traffic is everywhere, for those times, PDK is better.

If what you say is true, why are you trying to dole out wedgies? I won't mention trolling, it's beneath all of us.

No lattes, or drinks of any kind enter my cars. Period. I have no need for cupholders - heck one of my sports cars doesn't even have them. I am a rare Starbucks or any other barista service customer. You?

I have a pdk c4s and you couldn't pay me to take a 6MT c2s.

You really have to drive both and make your own choice as they provide different driver experiences.

No lattes in my 911 since I need both hands to drive a manual, I sip plenty of lattes in my Prius though lol.

I differ there too. When I drive my PDK-car in traffic I always do it in manual-shift mode. Sport Chrono (SC) should be in Normal in traffic as SC Normal/Auto uses too high a gear for my taste. Not a problem to push/pull a button/paddle while zipping through traffic. I only use Auto Mode in fast canyon runs with SC in Sport, as that opens other opportunities for steering/braking/mass balancing. A PDK has many facets which take time to get the full of seat of the pants and appreciate; it's not our fathers' automatic at all, only so defined by pure prejudice macho-driven arrogance. Not boring to me, it can be very technical, and I am someone with experience in the purist 915 5-speed (if you know what that is) which I love too.
