I was talking with the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Clause at cars & coffee last weekend and all three of them believe there will be a stick shift 911 5 years from now.

If Porsche truly does plan to eliminate the 3 pedals experience from 911's, Caymans's and Boxter's within the next 5 years then those of us who have a 911 with 3 pedals should feel good about having what will soon become a collectors car of sorts.

I've driven PDK's, 997.2 and 991. I've put it in so-called manual mode and shifted it (well, flicked is a better word) by hand. It feels like an automatic. Boring. If I have to settle for an automatic I'll go back to a Merc. I'd rather have a Mini or a Fiat 500 with a stick than a Porsche with an automatic. I can't stop Porsche from deciding to go 100% PDK but if I can't have one with a stick then I won't be having one.

Doubtful. Look at Ferrari that hasn't offered a 6sp manual in almost 6 years. Resale prices for 360's and 430's with 6sp manual is roughly the same as for F1 equipped cars.

A gratuitous, ignorant and prejudicial comment, if I ever seen one.
Are all current 991 GT3 owners "latte sippers not drivers"?
I drive both a PDK car and a 5 speed Porsche. The PDK is much a driver shift as the manual, if one knows how to use it. Yeah, it's got an auto mode, but it can be used as a proper manual sequential.

If you factor in that the ferraris with paddles initially sold at premium, the price acceleration of stick is even more dramatic (stick examples now exceed the f1 tranny cars)... in 10 years, premium will be much wider as % of price, no question about it.

I have both and like both in their own ways. Problem with PDK, no matter how great it is, it'll end up in auto mode after the novelty of shifting with paddles wears off and it becomes an automatic transmission, whether in sports or sports+ mode. So it gets boring after awhile. In a perfect world with no traffic, 6 speed all the way but we are not in a perfect world. Traffic is everywhere, for those times, PDK is better.

No lattes, or drinks of any kind enter my cars. Period. I have no need for cupholders - heck one of my sports cars doesn't even have them. I am a rare Starbucks or any other barista service customer. You?
