Yep...less narrow body cars than wide body. Carrera, Carrera S, GT3...think that is it.

Nope
"Nothing stiffer about the widebody or narrow body."
"1st post?...cool..welcome! "
Thanks for the welcome. I recently sold a 968 that I had owned for 18 years and bought a low mileage 997.2 in S. Carolina. Took a two week vacation and drove it back to Seattle__

I've had 4 WB 997 cars and 2 NB (1 996 and 1 997). I honestly can't tell any difference except in rain/snow, the AWD cars obviously have a better traction ability. Cornering seems about the same. Most like the wide hips of WB but NB cars are not exactly skinny in the back. My $.02 😊

Is the total extra width really only 1.7 inches? (4.4 cm)?
That's like .85 inches wider per side and doesn't seem to be enough to explain the difference in the look, although I never have seen a good side by side comparison. Maybe my perception is more effected by the name 'wide body' than any actual widening of the rear end.
Or is the body different in other areas that creates the perception of a wider look than the actual dimensions support?

Not sure about the exact measurements ^^^ but before I was a 997 owner and knew the difference I only knew that whenever I saw a 911, I found that sometimes I would see one and think "Dang that is bad a$$ looking and friggin awesome" and then other times I would think "Man that is nice...but not quiet the same look I saw before" and I came to find out the difference was that wide stance and the way it looked...not that I have done a serious side by side comparison but my buddy has a C2 and last weekend leaving a Cars & Coffee event he drove behind me and when we got to our destination he just kept going on and on about how friggin wide my car looks from behind and he loved it...so much so he is ordering spacers this week to push his wheels out to get more of that look.

Ahhhh! That makes more sense. The post I read that I was relying on must have put a decimal point where it doesn't belong.
Edit:
Wait a minute, coffee is kicking in.... my american bred aversion to all things metric has exposed my weakness....4.4cm....44mm....aren't we back at the same tiny increase?

Aren't the wide body tires also wider? While these tires don't show when standing behind the car, if you are far enough back and low enough down (driving behind) this is the difference I see. It becomes an additive effect.
I have been amazed at the detail this Forum goes in to. Small differences in a tape measure can make major differences in perception. IMHO it's the tires.

Walking down the hill to vote this morning I came upon a narrow body cab. Eight tenths of an inch spanning out from the edge of the body to the edge of the fender is a lot more than 1.7" added to the entire car! Still love my C4S!

rear spoilers, viewing angle, tire size, rear bumpers, exhaust and wheel offsets all contribute to what looks like a wide rear or not. Here's a shot of the rear or mine - widebody or not?

But I've got to count on you to confirm or deny.
