Bridgestone Tire (RE050) Opinions
What do you think about these tires on a Carrera. My understanding is that they are N-rated tires and came as standard equipment in some 911s. I have the none N-rated run-flat versions that came as standard equipment on my '08 BMW 650i. I love the tires on the 650i and was wondering what the opinions are on 911s.
Thanks for your input.

They came standard on my old 997.1. They were reasonable priced, fine all-around tires (translated: don't do anything really well). They were average in street and track applications. There are probably better tires for just road use and most definitely better tires for track/street use. The thing is, it depends on the way you drive, the performance you are looking for and how much you want to/can afford to spend. If I were never going to the track again and, say, drove in a "spirited" manner once a week, that would translate to never asking for, at best, more than 50 percent of what my car can do. Under that criteria the RE050s would be fine (for me).

As someone who has made the transition from RE050 to MPSS, what's your impression? The tirerack review gives the RE050A's a 7.6 score compared to 9.1 for the MPSS. I have RE 050's and will replace them with MPSS as soon as I can kill them off

Pirelli Zeros come standard on new cars and were on my 997 when I got it. I got Pirelli Sottozeros for Winter andstill have another Summer left on the Zeros. Aftre that, I was planning on replacing them with the exact same. I have no complaints on the Pirellis: they have done great daily driving, hill climbing, AutoXing and pushing hard on corners and the recent heavy rain.
Would Michelins be comparable or even better?

Yes the Michelin PSS are better tires but the RE050A N1 are quite good, far better than Conti, Pirelli and Goodyear. Note thought that they should be N1. The N1 are better than the previously rated N0 and non-rated.

I've had them on both my 997's and no complaints. Full disclosure, I don't track the car or drive it in snow. They're fine in heavy rain, not skittish at all.
To TCC's point, I drive "spiritedly" half the time but if I used more than 50% of the car's capability on public roads with any frequency I would've lost my license by now. I save those shenanigans for on/off ramps and back roads.

Thanks again to all who have responded. Deciding between michelin pilot super sports and the Bridgestone re050s. I want something sticky but quiet. Don't care how long they last since its a weekend car.

My 997.2 came with RE030's, which I beleive to be the original tires. One nice thing about these tires (and I assume this was carried over to the newer RE050) is that they have a "rim protector bead" that sticks out from the tire a little and helps to prevent rim rash.
I had MP SuperSports on my Cayman, and will probably get them again when I replace the Bridgestones. But for the money, the Bridgestones are not bad tires.
