Oil consumption and pressure
Hi folks
I have a 997.1 with 53000 miles on it. I have burnt 500ml of oil in 3000 miles. This is pretty normal isn't it?
My pressure is good I think? Sits above 3.5 when doing 65mph in 6th gear rotating at tad under 3000rpm?
Cheers for any feedback

Is that oil pressure OK? My gauge is at 5 when doing any type of highway crusiing unless it's like 110 F out and then it's a little lower., maybe 3.5-4.

Oil consumption
I have a 997.1 with 55K miles and oil consumption was steadily increasing. Turned out to be the air oil separator (AOS), which is $90 unless you want the Motorsport version for track use ($900).

Trouble is you are relying upon an oil pressure gage that is not a real precise instrument.
Real oil pressure, un-dampened raw oil pressure is a frightfully dynamic entity. The pressure rises and falls with alarming speed and can be a real distraction and cause even more concern to the driver.
For the older engines Porsche calls out an oil pressure at a certain temperature and RPM. I do not recall any specifics off hand but just to give you an example: 6 bar at 90C at 6K. I'm sure for the newer engines Porsche has something similar.
For the driver then the oil pressure gage is mainly decoration. If the low oil pressure light comes on that's important, and probably too late.
But catastrophic loss of oil pressure is very rare. As long as the oil level is reasonable (and the oil the right viscosity grade and reasonably fresh) the engine will have enough oil pressure. (A good number of cars have no oil pressure gage and the cars and their engines and the owners seem to get along just fine.)
So with around 5 bar at say 3K or higher is about right. And if the oil pressure drops a bit under high ambient temperature conditions that's about right too.
With my Turbo I've observed mainly the biggest change in oil pressure on cool days vs. hot days is at idle. Near 2 bar on cool days while closer to 1.5 bar on real hot days and driving around in town and through parking lots at slow speeds.
Once up to speed the cooling system sheds heat very effectively (it ain't no slouch at this even stopped as the radiator fans move a lot of air) and after a while at idle again the oil pressure will be up as the oil has been cooled down some.

Fully warmed up at 200F you should see a steady 2 bar at idle using QUALITY oil.
Oil pressure gauge errs on safe side i.e. on loss of electrical contact it will actually show higher than actual pressure.
Have your car checked by a professional. I would.
The AOS is easy to diagnose using vacuum gauge on oil filler cap: 4-6 inch water column is OK. above 7 inch H2O indicates AOS on its way out. Again, QUALITY oil will extend life of AOS.
