Default 997.1: First Round of Upgrades Complete

GMP Performance wrapped up my first round of upgrades today. Installed were the following:

Fister Mufflers (Darin, the cores are shipping to you next week)
H&R Springs + Alignment
Numeric Shifter and Cables

The most surprising thing was how far off the alignment was (see pic). It should drive MUCH better now.

GMP did an awesome job ... I am very happy with the results. Unfortunately I can't directly sample until I am out of this sling (shoulder surgery).

How's the height? Did you wait a certain amount of time to allow the springs to "settle" before doing the alignment?

The height is good but functional. It no longer looks like an SUV but my wife did not notice any changes or scraping.

I am not sure how much time was allowed between the spring installation and the alignment. GMP does a ton of these every year so I trust their methodology.

A ton of people on this board are very hesitant to do springs. My advice - buy H&R and get a good alignment. If your wheels are stock, you're going to almost NEED spacers to pull off the look.

With the proper setup the car is not too low and will never rub. At least mine hasn't.

Nice ride OP!!!

I turned my 993 into a club racer with 800 lb springs, EVO uprights and JIC/CROSS suspension ... so not really afraid of mods. Personally I wanted to do PSS9's but trying to be mindful of budget.

Probably doing a set of lobsters as my next upgrade with spacers (7mm and 15mm).

If you want set of track wheels search for used ccw set. Watch those h&r springs, some people spoke those springs have a tendency to sag with time and make car sit way lower than acceptable.

Search this site, there is a ton of info what actually makes those 997 street cars go faster. Mufflers only alter sound. Cats, sway bars, LCAs, springs and shocks, dogbones, plenum, throttle body - street cars can use any of those from gt3, rs, cup cars. It is only limited by your budget.

Learned my lesson on my 993 regarding $$$ spent on mods. I wanted a 993 RS + that would pass GT3s .. which I got. But found that it is better to buy the car that you want vs building it.

After the wheels I will be pretty much done on this one.

I have a set of Volk TE37s and Turbo Twists that will be my track wheels.

Well, as with any hobby it depend upon point of view. Building costs more but it is quite a lot of fun, the process of car's transformation, decisions making, etc.

Agreed ... I completely enjoyed the design/build process on the 993, but that was before our twins arrived.

Now that they are 5 I have a little more time but still have to balance things out between them, my wife, our puppy, my job, my restaurant, my rental property and PCA. I have an early 928 that I am tinkering with also.
