Please Help! How much to offer 997.2 @ Dealer.
#16
I also sent a lower offer to the hail damaged 997 dealer and they rejected it. I am very frustrated right now as I have been searching daily for the past 3 weeks with nothing coming up that matches my criteria. Even finding a 987.2 Cayman S is difficult. I've been lurking on Rennlist, planet-9, 6speed, Ebay, Craigslist, Autotrader, Cars.com with an ALL MILES radius and still nothing!

There is a good reason why paintless dent removal costs less than traditional dent repair . It is not as good. Hail leaves microfissures in the paint surface. Depending on the size, velocity, angle and hardness of the hail and the climate--sun, rain, pollution, acid rain, freeze-thaw-- if the surface is not properly painted and sealed these microfissures eventually produce varying degrees of discoloration, pitting and even rust in some cases. This would merit a fairly big discount to me.

So in my opinion this is what you should do. First, you gotta decide which car you want. 911's and Cayman's are very different. Both great, but different. Once you figure out which it is, then you move forward. If it's a Cayman, just wait a couple weeks and one will probably show up in that budget. If it's a 911, wait 3-6 months and '09s will start to drop in price as '15's become established. And plus during that time you can save up some more. Imo, '09 or newer is the way to go for the interior changes alone. The power bump is nice too.

Agree with above ^^^ - I was looking for a whole year before I found the right deal. Good things happen when you least expect it. Rush in and you would have to settle for something.

I searched a year for an 09 to get what I wanted. When found, negotiated the price over the phone but no money changed hands until I flew up and spent 2 hours going over car and records. Be patient, you will find YOUR car! Several times I became so impatient that I almost bought cars that were "settle for" cars. AVOID THIS. Wait, get what you want, and visually inspect after a PPI. I love my car and I am so glad I waited! Good luck and your car is out there!

This is probably the biggest thing. The car I almost settled for was a fantastic price and it's still for sale right now, 3 months later. Can't believe I almost purchased it. I almost convinced myself that the issues where not a big deal.

I was looking for the same car as you, 09 911 PDK low miles around $50k, and started looking Dec 2013, and I also live in CA. I finally found my car in March 2014, but it was in Chicago. I bought mine over the phone sight unseen the day after it was listed (wife and friends thought I was crazy) 09 911 base PDK Sport Chrono Black/Tan 25k miles paid $52k and shipped it for $900, took 2 weeks to get delivered. It was 1 owner, had all service and maintenance papers, and I had PPI done. Best purchase of my life
My advice is slow down. You will find your perfect Pcar, don't rush it. Buying sight unseen is risky and everything worked out very well for me, but I don't recommend it. I'm so glad I waited until I found the exact car I wanted, DO NOT settle for any Pcar or story car, cause yours is out there! I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks for the wonderful responses. I've decided to forget about the 911 with a story and decided to avert my attention to a 987.2 cayman s. I've negotiated the price to mid $40k for this example, what do you guys think? Please be honest!

If you'd be happy with a Cayman (not saying you shouldn't be, they are great drivers) I think this is a nice looking car. I'd ask for some good dash pictures since it's coming from the Nevada sun. The one in the slide show is too far away to tell the condition.

Do you have to buy a car immediately? It took me nearly six months to find the right 911 for me and I don't believe that is too unusual around this forum. I loved my Cayman S for a while but, if you've always wanted the iconic 911, you will regret not owning one. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Why haven't you looked on Porsche's pre owned web site?
These cars are Porsche dealer offered & many are certified. Buy from a dealer, and in most cases you won't go wrong.
