997.1 Tiptronic 0-60 time
Porsche is notorious for their conservative performance numbers when advertising their cars acceleration stats. That being said, they list the 997.1 Carrera 4/Targa's are going 0-60 in 5.4 with the tiptronic transmission. I've searched all over the net but cant seem to find a magazine which tested one of these cars with the tip trans. I know the car is way faster then 5.4 0-60 as I also own an infiniti G37s coupe which has the same claimed performance numbers but my targa easily rips it by several car lengths. Any idea how fast a 997 C4/T4 actually are?

Loaded out Targa 4 TIP weight is 3585lbs (S is 3616!) vs base C2 manual at 3075 lbs --over 500Lb diff.
0-60 for C2 manual is 4.6 vs 5.7 for the Targa C4. All that extra option/weight comes wtih a penalty, but, I think you are right that the 0-60 is sub 5 seconds nevertheless for the Targa 4.

Not sure where you are getting your specs from but that's not remotely close. You have to compare empty weights to be consistent. From Porsche's press release the Targa 4 Tip weighs 3417 pounds, not 3585. The coupe does weigh 3075 with the manual trans. Thus the weight difference is 342 pounds not 500 pounds.
In a Car and Drive comparison vs the Corvette, the base 911 ran 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. Beating the Porsche advertised time of 4.8 seconds. Could it be Porsche is underestimating their performance times by as much as half a second?

Its in the spec section of the owners manual (you can google it). 3585lbs is the top end weight if you have every option plus TIP which is 90lbs in of itself. The 4.8 is correct; I said 4.6. Work is getting in the way of me posting accurately I guess. I'm not a good enough driver (with the manual) to make that number anyway. Either way these cars are fast and enjoyable and beautiful, especially the Targa 4with those bigger hips and removable roof - don't see too many around. Enjoy.

Thanks, I love the Targa body style. The "top end" weight of a C2 manual is not 3075 pounds its actually 3253. Making the delta with the C4 Targa Tip about 300 pounds vs the standard car. My best guess given the weight difference is that the Targa will be about .5 a second slower which would mean 0-60 in about 4.8- 4.9 seconds. However, I have no data to substantiate that.
Has anyone seen a non turbo 997 tip tested in any car magazines?

It's in the manual... and don't trust that site, it's all over the map. I guess your question is how much slower it is vs. manual, and the 997 manual shows the difference. I am sure there's a PDF copy online somewhere.
