Default 997.2 Carrera Rotor and Brake Pad a Replacement

I have a 2009 Carrera and want to DIY on rotors and new pads. Have reviewed threads and watched all videos regarding replacement. I can't find anything on my model type. Carrera model has a totally different caliper than an S model. It's different from 997.1 also... Anyone done this that can detail how to get to pads and replace?? Also, can I exchange Hawk Ceramic pads for OEM.. There seems to be a special shim... Thanks!

Have you seen this one? http://www.motodyn.com/blogs/bikes/o...d-replacement/

It's for a 997.1, but the differences are insignificant.

The calipers in the link look like "S" calipers
The OP was looking for instructions for base calipers if I understand him right

Thanks for the response and the info but looking for Carerra base model info, as the caliper is different.

Ags is right, I've seen on other posts that the pads in the non-S 997.2s requires removal of the caliper. Beyond that, I can't help, but all other cars I've had required caliper removal and the work was typically obvious. I'd doubt there is anything tricky to it.

that would be my guess too.
So basically follow any DIY which describes the removal of the calipers

Kind-a sucks though, makes this simple process much more of a pain in the neck

I am faced with same task (2010 Carrera base).

The caliper is held by two bolts which must be removed with Torx 55. Then, theoretically, you pull off the caliper from the rotor with pads still in place. However, the rotor will be worn and have an edge/lip on the very outside which your pads will get stuck on. So you will need to first push in the pistons a bit. I imagine that if you pull and push on the caliper a bit you should get enough clearance. If this will actually work I don't know as I havent tried it yet.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

CF

There is one significant difference: you can not pull out the pads from the top of the caliper! Calipers on 997.2 is same style as GT3

Yes, all the above is correct. Base 997.2 caliper removal necessary for pad replacement. No need to remove brake hoses there is enough slack. Pry the pads back to retract pistons. Pad replacement is straight forward once the caliper is free. Of course you will have to deal with the brake sensors, if you are careful, you maybe able to reuse them.

How do you intend to pry the pads back?

If you do manage to pry them somehow make sure you do so evenly in order to avoid tilting the pistons.

I am not exactly sure but will be as careful as possible. Not sure if how it is done for "S" caliper will work the same for standard... That is what I plan for now. Thanks

Flat blade screwdriver between the rotor and the ear of the pad then pry. It does not take much force to push the pistons back. If you are concerned about jamming the pistons, then use two screwdrivers simultaneously. However, it truly is not an issue, the pistons move easily.
