Waiting for tow.
No leaks.
Oil level ok.
Lost complete power while cruising at highway speeds.
Tried to restart a few times. Warning message: oil pressure too low!
Waited a few... Tried again and returned "visit service center!"
Engine cranks fine.
Gonna get towed home then to nearby indy shop asap.
Anyone familiar with similar situation.?

Well, waited an hour for flat bed. Took an hour to load on top of that. Had to remove the aero kit front lip spoiler and get extremely creative with wooden boards to raise the chin up.
Used tow hook to pull her onto flatbed.. rotated boards forward to barely clear chin. Had to do same to rear.
Anyway...
My indy shop was on the way home. When I bought the car, I immediately came here and also researched indy shops and one was 5 mins away. Dropped her off (hour to unload) at something like 4am. Slipped the AAA driver some cash for a ride the rest of the way home.
Spoke to indy at 8am and he's gonna do full diagnostics on Tuesday morning.
All indications when I lost power was electric/electronic.
I did see via a web search that a few 997's had bad oil pressure sensors and some indication that Porsche went with a full shut off by design for this fault.
Keep you all posted. Losing power and muscling the car off the road could have turned out a lot worse.

Fuel pump: Would the warning message say "low oil pressure" if the fuel pump croaked? When I came to a stop, I removed the key and went thru the start up procedure to see if it was a computer hiccup. Engine cranked and "low oil pressure" warning was front and center.

So far... doesn't seem to be anything electronic/engine management related, and seems to be the fuel pump that gave up the ghost. Before diving into a fuel pump, gonna check a couple of other things... but sure seems like the fuel pump at this point.
That's the latest.

Fingers crossed it is indeed just a fuel pump. If they fail more from age than mileage it wouldn't be surprising. Earliest I have had one go is five years (VW) and latest eleven years (Ford). VW gave no prior warning, Ford gave some hints and I just drove it until it went for good.

Well, after driving about 750,000 miles in my life... I can say I finally...
... I ran out of gas!
Was my low fuel light on? NO. Where is my fuel gauge needle? Sitting just a touch below the 1/4 mark.
Hey... I like high-performance and exotic car quirks as much as anyone. Heck, I'd be happy to prime my engine before starting and click on the fuel pump manually as I risked flooding. I really don't mind quirks... I sort o' expect them.
but come on, Porsche!
Kudos to my mechanic for his honesty and for not taking a shot at me, because even he can see the darn fuel gauge!
