Polyurethane engine/transmission mounts, YES or NO?
Hey guys,
I was looking to stiffen up the engine/transmission in my 997S. Car is mostly a weekend street car with occasional track time. Was thinking about the Torque solutions 75A (street) poly engine mount and transmission inserts. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Mark |
I have the RSS mounts. Noticeable improvement in shifting. Car feels tighter all around and definitely feels tighter when cornering. There is a noticeable increase in sound and vibration in the cabin. I don't mind it at all and quite like it, makes it feel more like a sports car than a GT. At 1500 rpm and 3000 rpm there is a reverberation in the deck lid that is quite loud at times.
Overall, a good improvement, but if you like a nice quiet car it may not be for you. |
Currently, we offer the only Trans Mount Insert for the 997.1 Carrera 6-speed.
Fortifying the transmission mount will lead to enhanced shifter feel with greater accuracy, as well as keep the chassis settled under accel, braking, and cornering. When I added Porsche RS engine mounts, I was rewarded with a tighter chassis and back end. No longer is there slosh movement of the engine in off camber turn and tight corners. There was also noticeably more NVH from the engine, but not in an annoying way. More like what a sport car should sound and feel.
My next upgrade was Function First's transmission mount. Shifts were crisp and solid. Very accurate feeling and tight pattern. No loose feeling. But with this newfound shifting sensation, I was met with more driveline NVH; especially with the presence of my LWFW. Bottom line, if you want a tighter chassis, as well as, more accurate and enjoyable shifting, and you can tolerate some additional NVH, then these components are for you. |
I can support the vibration I am more afraid of creating unnecessary rattles along the way. I dont think I would tolerated having interior bits rattling and shaking out of control. I guess its the type of mod you do, and then if you don't like it change it back I guess? Thanks, Mark

The mounts don't actually cause more rattles, but anything that is prone to rattling does rattle more at certain RPM, for me this is 1500 and 3000. Yes, of course you can switch back to stock. If you do it yourself, you will just be out the cost of the mounts which you should be able to sell for not much less than you paid for them.

The RSS mounts definitely make it feel more like a sports car and I prefer the feel, but they do come with the drawback of more NVH, although that is part of what makes it feel better to me. |
For those of you unsure about upgrading to the Trans Mount Inserts because of added vibration, we are now offering a softer version as well (70A hardness vs the original 80A hardness).

Have you sold any of the motor mounts yet and what are the reviews? How resistant are the mounts seeing that they are taken apart and refilled with urethane? Is urethane the same as polyurethane? Thanks, Mark |

The urethane fills all the empty voids of the OEM mount, and replaces the hydraulic dampening fluid, so the end result is a much stronger and durable mount. |
