PS2 Tires.. Replace rears or F+R?
PS2 rear tires are 90% worn with RR losing 1-2 PSI/week from small nail. Fronts are ~70% worn.
Planning to go Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but do I jump in now or....
1) Patch rear for 2-3k more miles then replace all (despite ~20% left on front PS2s)
2) Replace rears with new PS2s (will I end up with worn out fronts + 50% rear tread?)
3) Used PS2s on the rear (hoping front/rears wear out at the same time)

I hear you on the rears, but the front are showing 6/32 (new is 9/32), so I guess that's more like 40% life if I replace at 2/32.. It seems rather wasteful to trash front tires when they're only a little over half used. Am I crazy or is there still a bit of life left in the fronts?

if the fronts are 6/32 just replace the rears, from what i gather your rears sound like they are close to the wear bars and have a leak.
any rwd car will have diff front and rear wear rates.... i just swap out the set that is worn (keeping make/model consistent)
i wouldnt bother spending the money mounting 50% worn rear tires so that they 'match the wear' of the fronts.

How old are the fronts? If they are about five years old, I would replace all four tires. There is a lot of risk driving with 2/32 inch tread depth. One wet spot and you have no traction. I replace tires when they reach the 4/32 depth of tread or six years old.

+4... the front tires provide most of your directional control. If they're old replace with a new set of four. Sell the two fronts or keep them on another set of wheels for track use if they're still serviceable. GL.

Thanks for everyone's input, I've decided to go ahead with MPSS all around in the Spring and be done with it... and hopefully recoup a few bucks by selling the front set as one member suggested.
Do tire prices fluctuate over winter (I'm in Canada --- i.e. is it better to buy now or wait until Spring?)

I put on MPSS's all around just before storage since I had a slice in one.
There was a shortage last fall. Simply Tire was sold out.
I got them mine at Braiden Tire. Awesome service & prices were the same.
Don't know about now but I would suggest per-ordering in case.
Spring comes fast.

I have a question regarding tpms, and two tire change. My car is 4 years old (going on 5). I will need new tires soon and am curious if I need to change the tpms as well. If I only change the rears and put in new tpms units in there will there be a problem with activation/recognition ect if I go with aftermarket and with just two tpms? BTW I have had no indication that my units not working properly. How accurate is the durametric reading on tpms longevity?

Use your DM tool to check the battery life left in the sensors but at 4-5 yrs those original Porsche TPMS sensor should start going out one by one. Maybe time to swap all four out while you're changing tires vs. paying for an installer to break the bead of the tire to do so later... not sure how these would interact if you mix differing brands of sensors. But for cost of 1 P-car sensor I got all 4 from OEwheels... worth it so far.
