new. quick q's: no Auto Lights? Nav typing?
Hi,
Totally excited about my new 997 2012 4 GTS. However, coming from a BMW, I do miss some of the "gadgets". Anyway, quick q's:
1)how do I set the lights to Auto? (so I never had to touch the switch again..)
2) What is "TP" volume? Not sure what that controls.
3) Do these cars not have auto dimming mirrors? Or did I miss an option?
4) When I am typing in the Navi, is it possible to make it "click" on every keystroke?
The rest I was able to find in the manual. thanks!

1) You can't
2) Traffic programming. See here.
3) Yes. You probably missed an option.
4) Dunno - my car doesn't have nav.
Go drive!

1) Autolights - not on the cars. If you don't want to manually work the control, the 997 is not for you. ;-)
2) TP - traffic programme - its a radio sideband service that would (in places its well supported like Europe) allow your radio to auto-change to a channel when traffic announcements were broadcast, then tune back to whatever audio source was playing when the announcement is over. Works super in Germany, sucks in the US as most FM radio stations and regions don't use it or don't use the system correctly. Typically, in the USA you want to have TP turned off. This setting controls the volume of the TP system.
3) Autodimming is an option ordered with the car - if your car has it, its apparent by the bluish tint over the side mirror, and the manual override button on the rear view mirror that lets you turn the system on/off. Its a factory option that may not have been chosen when your car was built.
4) PCM screen key clicks - from what I recall, there is no option for button clicks.
One thing that may bug you and seem counter-intuitive - in the PCM settings for the clock, there is a checkbox for 'Daylight Savings Time'. You must manually set that to be checked when you are in DST (ie the summer between March and November), and manully uncheck it for standard time (now)). It does not mean that the system will automatically adjust for daylight savings time (despite that fact that its got GPS and could get time info from the atomic clock signal in your region). That checkbox will adjust the clock by the hour necessary.

I have auto dim on my '05 C2S. It may be different on your '12 but there's a little button at the bottom of the rear view mirror that allow me to turn the feature off & on.
When on, there's a little green LED in the rear view mirror.
All the mirrors take on a blueish tinge when activated.
Works awesome when any trucks are behind you.
