Loose tubing
My car is at a detailer. He wrote me having discovered, not damaging, a piece of tubing in engine compartment of my 2005 Carrera 3.6
Can any of you ID this piece? It looks like vacuum tubing but I am not saavy in these matters.
He picked up the car the other day and said it drove fine enroute to his shop.
There are two shots.
Thanks in advance. Car enroute to my Indy for winter oil chg after detailing. I was just hoping for ideas now.. No CEL or other anomalies reported.

Finished detail in engine bay
This is the after detailing photo I think it looks fantastic. Were it not for these work in progress shots, when I pick it up I'd feel like I was on Overhaulin' :-)

Thanks Rick,
Did some googling on this and the helmholtz resonator.
If that's part of that system, it seems like it would easily make it to my Indy when I get the car back.
Anyone else? I'm kinda surprised it was back there disconnected.
Seen this thing?

I believe that is your secondary air intake suction (changeover) valve, all I know is that it's to do with the induction system. As far as I was aware the Helmholtz resonator is contained within the air filter box.

I don't know where the other end goes, but it disappears towards the front of the engine on mine. As long as the valve isn't faulty, and I would doubt it is, I suspect you are good to go. I would guess it just got knocked off at some point.

The tube attaches to the right rear of the airbox. If you don't look for it and remove it when pulling the box out it will pull itself off. The routing you show in your picture looks incorrect. It should come along the right side of the engine by the motor mount. It's easy to forget to put this back on upon reinstalling the airbox.
I plan on working on my car this afternoon so I'll take a picture and post it.

Tube routing and attachment
Okay, curiousity got the best of me and I went to look. The tube needs to be routed under the throttle body (the item in your picture that the large intake tube coming from your airbox attaches to) over to the right side of the engine bay.
On the right rear of your airbox you'll see the MAF wire that splits. One end connects to the MAF itself and the other plugs into a small box attached to the airbox. you can see all this from the top without removing the airbox. the pliable curved end of the tube attaches to an outlet tube on the bottom of the small box I refer to above.
A snapped a couple of photos but don't have time to upload now. Let me know if the description above doesn't solve the issue and I'll upload the pictures.
