There were some 2009 base cars LAST year at this time from $52k to as low as $48k...but no cpo on the ones I was looking at. Most of those had around 30k miles. Now a year later, the market has improved and prices seem to be about the same NOW. If it's his local dealer car $50k, private party I would want in it for less. I always checked Park Place in Dallas as they seem to run a lot of lease returns through...and no doubt prices have not moved much from last year. I'm also seeing 08's priced as much or more than .2 cars, really strange.

I've been looking at 997.2 prices here in SF Bay Area for a year, and $50k sounds like a dream. We have 997.1 with comparable mileage listed for $60k here.

I know the prices are always negotiable, but if I need to negotiate the list price down $10k to meet my expectation, I'm not even gonna bother going to the dealer lot.

Should I stop looking locally and search elsewhere for my 997.2?

I live in NJ and searched for a 09 4S everwhere in my budget. Not at a Porsche dealer could I even come close. Ended up after 4 months buying my Porsche in Detroit and shipping it back. Guess what..... $52K loaded. Did the PPI and it's awesome. My advise is to out of state if you can't find what you want within your budget. Keep on it Sleepy.

Yes! I don't even remember the last car I bought in my home town. I search the entire country when I'm looking. Not only does it give you more to choose from but it also gives you a much better idea of what the car you're looking for is worth in the bigger marketplace as opposed to just searching locally.

Thanks for the advice. But how do you guys handle the logistic buying elsewhere?

I mean -- I don't feel comfortable buying a car sight-unseen. But if I do travel 1000 miles to see the car, I'd have very little bargaining power if something's not up to my expectations, right?

Risk vs reward. Tell them you are in town to buy one of two cars you are comparing. But DEFINITELY go see it in person.

I've done it before and I have turned one down after making the trip to see it. The car had water damage which didn't show up in any of the photos. I gladly ate the cost of the return trip.

I just bought a very clean 997.2 S with about 32K miles, PDK, Sport Chrono for $57K in the DC area. I would have paid maybe $48-50K for the car you describe.

I just bought mine less than 2 months ago. Similar options but a bit less mileage at 31k miles. I would say based on the car you described, $52k is realistic. If you get lucky and be patient enough wait it out a month or two $50k is possible if the car hasn't been sold by then, especially given it's going to be December soon. Also depends on where the car is located. I couldn't find any car locally in the Atlanta region. They seem to be priced higher than other places, and somehow the cars move fast, so dealers don't even bother with negotiating the price with me. I had to buy mine out of state, but within driving distance.
