Your impressions ( driving) the 991...

Like others, it's not that the 991 is such a clumsy design (aloof, as others have already called it) or that it drives too much like a Lexus, but that it does not have that "gotta have it" factor the 997 so inspired in many of us.
Now, I did drive the new F-Type and, Wow! I gotta have it! The looks; the feel, the size, that sound, that cabin, especially the seats, and, um, those little things called hp-- 495 of them. No searching for torque here. It's present at virtually any RPM range. And the sound is real-- no artificial sound piped inside the cabin need apply (Really? Really? A sports car that needs to pipe sound inside its cabin? Am I missing something? WTF?).
Therefore, no Panamera Coupe for me. I would wait for the new Maser GranSport, but 2017? 2018? Ever?
Wow! Gotta have the F-Type. Now!
Anyone interested in a mint condition 2010 4S?

+1 Jaguar has not built a 2-seat sports car in 40 years but they hit a home run with the F-type. The car is FUN to drive, and the SOUND of that V8...WOW... Nothing artificial piped inside or any artificial sound coming from the speakers. I just wish it came with a manual transmission but the 8-speed Auto is one of the best Auto's I have driven. When I test drove the F type it wasnt as hard core or as precise as a 911 or the new Boxster but still better than 90% of the new cars on the road.
I was talking to my local Jaguar salesman and he mentioned that he was surprised and some of the car that are being traded in for the F-type like Porsche 911's, Porsche 996TT, BMW M5, corvettes, Lexus, and a BoxsterSpyder I was shocked to hear that but they had it sitting in the show room for sale. Should be interesting to see how Jaguar will fine tune the F-type in the next few years.
Also interested to see what Porsche does with all of the new competition that they now have but did not have when the 997 was introduced back in 2005

To each their own. To me it looks like someone pulled on the tail which stretched and flattened it.

Here's some side by side photos I stumbled across. The 991 is no doubt a little different, but they are so similar in many ways it is hard to say one is any less beautiful than the other.

That is a fantastic comparison of these 2 iterations. Since the 991 has not yet grown on me, I find that this pairing shows it very favorably. I'm still newly and madly in love with my 997 C2S, but the sweep and sensuality of the 991 is readily apparent in the comparison.
Nice to have choices!

My observations following a short drive...
The 991 is quicker than the 997.
The 991 is bigger than the 997.
The 991 is faster than the 997.
The 991 is bigger than the 997.
The 991 handles better than the 997.
The 991 is bigger than the 997.
The electrical steering is acceptable on the 991.
The 991 is bigger than the 997.
The 991 is more comfortable than the 997.
The 991 is bigger than the 997.
The 991 is better than the 997 in nearly every measurable area.
The 991 is bigger than the 997.
Did I mention that this car is HUGE!
Up through the 993, a driver could reach across and close the passenger door in a 911. Starting with the 996, the 911 has been growing, but this latest growth spurt is huge. Will I ever be trading my GTS for a 991? Most likely no. If I grow bored with the GTS, the next Porsche for me will most likely be a Cayman....but it's huge too!

In your picture examples, the 991 looks disimilar to the Panamera. In real life however, like when both cars are stopped facing one another at opposing red lights, I get confused whether it's a Panamera or a 991 911.
Maybe I need my eyes checked, but that's my impression.

Stunning ^
I'll always have a 997 in the garage but a 991 would be nice addition. A lot of great modern Porsches out there it's really hard to choose. If I had the bucks I'd have a 20 car garage and about 8 of those spaces would be for Porsches.

As little as a year and half ago if someone had told me that my next car would not be a 911 but instead a Jag or Maser, I would have excused that person as bat$hit crazy. But now, I am bat$hit crazy over the F-Type.

Looking at adding a 993, but looking at prices of 997 I am beginning to wonder if it would not be better to get a 997.1 Turbo instead of a 993S ????? I know apples and oranges.....
