Going to Buy An 07 or 08 997, Any Advice?
My 03 996 is totaled, not my fault. I am going to get a slightly used 997, <30k miles and can't wait to go start test driving! (06-08)
Had a few questions.
At what mileage are the required maintenances?
Any factory defects like IMS for 06-08?
Any other defects I should look out for?
Anyone have a Plenum or Evo CAI installed? Did you dyno it?

you can only replace the IMS on the 05 997, the 06-08 has a new non-replaceable IMS bearing
There have been so few IMS failures in the 06-08 its not worth worrying about.

Just go buy whatever one floats your boat between 06 and 08 and forget about any IMS issues. Its so over-hyped with such little failures...

Just get an 06 and not worry about it, if you are then get an aftermarket warranty that covers engine failures. You are basically giving free money away, IMS failures are extremely rare with 06' models. I think a member on this forum decided to email and contact all the ones that checked on yes on IMS failures and half do not own 911s, probably bunch of Corvette owners clicking on yes to tell their friends what a piece of **** 911s are. lol j/k.

Yes, mine is a 2006 997 S, which puts mine as an M97 with the larger bearing. While not serviceable, I am much more confident in this design than the early small bearing motors and do not sweat the dreaded IMS failure.

I'm looking at a few, some 06-08s. Do you happen to have a pic of the back of your car that shows the fatness, kind of an angle from close to the ground? I was looking at an 06 and I can't tell if the fatness of 911 S models are the same from the 06s to the 08s.

No big changes '06-'08 except TPMS is standard '07 & newer. Rare on an '06. Widebody is what you are referring to and that is on the AWD models only. All S models and non S models are narrow unless 4 or 4S. 4 is for AWD! Targa came out in '07 and they are always AWD and therefore widebody too. Great cars, I have had 3 997.1 cars, 1 narrow & 2 WB AWD and they are awesome! Have fun looking, only other recommendation is get one that has had frequent oil changes and has been driven frequently. Good luck.

Nice. Ok thanks for the advice! I got worried there for a day and started having second thoughts. Now I'm back on the hunt!

I bought my car like 2 weeks before I deployed again so only have like 3 pictures of it for now.
